I have tried that with the Ranger... stops OK but does not seem to start up as well. Of course mine is a 2019 so the newer 6G may well have improved on that. My wife's Volvo (2018) does all that very well.
Really! The 5G Ranger does not have the Stop/Start feature on ACC. The Cruise drops out at like 35 mph.

My wife's Mazda has it and it works well. But, you need to pay attention and be ready to stop if in traffic.

Edited ment to say the 5G Ranger does not have Stop/Start Cruise.

With ACC, f you deal with sleet or snow, when the lower sensor gets iced/covered, you can't even use regular CC. Beyond that it's nice except for assholes that fly around and go back to sleep when they get in front of you.

I really don't like ACC
I really don't like people racing up behind me then slowing to my speed and just sitting there when they could easily pass.
I get to show that hate for both by slowly slowing down when the ACC guy gets behind me. It's a game. Best so far was 76 MPH down to 57 MPH. Then they woke up and went around.
Was that you?🤣
A driver's concern while driving forward is what is in front of and next to them. And to a minor extend behind if they need to slow down for traffic or such, but more for oh shit that vehicle behind me can't, or ain't gonna, stop, can I safely evade impact. But any driver changing their speed or stabbing the brakes just because a vehicle is matching their speed behind them is just a dick. I love adaptive cruise, use it all the time, I set it to posted limit + 10% - 1MPH and as long as the car in front of me is somewhere between the posted limit and my speed, I just cruise behind them. I'll even go as low as 5 below depending on traffic or how far I'm driving. Ford programmed the safe distance in, if I'm unloaded with clear roads, as close as it'll let me set it. Rain or loaded truck, I add more distance.

If the sensor is blocked, you can switch CC to Normal in the menus (Driver assist -> Cruise -> Normal).

My adaptive CC will remain active down to 10MPH. One night I wanted to see how high it would let me set the cruise, so I had it set at 100MPH for 30 miles, But was only going 55-60MPH behind my daughter's car though. My biggest disappointment with the CC is I can't disable traction control and still use it. I can fully disable the traction control in the Focus and CC still works.

I’m above the posted limit on most highways and run cruise control (No ACC on my Ranger) except when it’s raining or in winter conditions. When I‘m getting closer to the car ahead, I just start adjusting my set speed with the “-“ button, one km/hr at a time until I match their speed at a safe distance (DCC).

I sick back and patiently wait for the dotted centre line and a safe time to pass. Then, I let it rip and bask in the glory of the quick acceleration, the throaty sound of my Roush intake, and the augmented engine sound being piped throughout the cabin.

When I Was getting paid to haul large quantities of liquid propane down public roads the company I worked for paid to fly me 600 miles and put me up in a hotel for 3 nights to take a drivers training course. The Smith Course.
The gist of the course was use whatever legal means to create space around your vehicle. The more space the less likelihood of interaction with other vehicles and more options and time to deal with what develops.
Turns out the move most likely to create that cushion was to increase your following distance. Stuck in a pack increase your following distance and they will go around. Being tailgated, ditto It was whatever it is increase your following distance. What a waste of $$$.
But the seed was planted. I slowly started to create space around myself and the only real option in a truck hauling thousands of gallons of liquid was to increase your following distance to create that cushion then try to match the speed of what was in front of you to keep that cushion. With the van I do have the option of speeding to accomplish the same, a ticket doesn't mean loss of livelihood.
The easiest, least stressful, uses the least fuel option is if you are riding my bumper, is for me to "increase my following distance" until you go around. But only if the guy behind has the reasonable and safe option of doing so. I am that lone car with a pack of vehicles a mile ahead and a mile behind and will slow or speed up to keep it that way.

The only "follow cushion" a driver is responsible for is the one in front of them. I've already said what a driver is if they feel the need to manage the one behind them.

I tried that and it was still disabled hence the post. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I was in the right but died in the fire when somebody rear ended my truck full of LPG.

Oh, well that is really poor programming, or maybe a safety feature? But, only a safety feature though if they documented that as the reason that reverting the CC to a model that should not use the sensor that it would still reject to cruise to to expected poor road conditions along with sensor icing over. If not documented, poor programming logic that is checking the state of an unrequired sensor.
