Yes, remove and add straight pipe extension, don’t know about HP gains, I had it tuned immediately after..just do it , I promise you will like it..

Thanks Doc! I have to get back to the shop that installed my level kit as they're going to check everything and re-torque. I was going to see how much they'd charge as they were reasonable with the level kit install and the alignment.

Question:
I think I am measuring the stock as being 2.5". I also looked at the pic that shows the 1" restrictor. My question is, does anyone know what the dia is going thru the muffler up to that 1" restrictor?

The exhaust starts out as 3",it's then necked DOWN to 2 1/2" on the inlet, then necked back up to 3" on the outlet,PLUS,you can clearly see the 1" restriction when you look down the inlet tube.

Could be. I'm beginning to think that our exhaust systems are APPROXIMATELY the same size, as mine measured out to 2 15/16ths od. I just looked at my receipt and the muffler was replaced with a 30" piece of 3" tubing. So there seems to be some variations in sizes. This is the first time replacing a muffler with a piece of straight pipe. All my other trucks were V8 powered and I ran Heartthrob cat back systems, and just didn't pay much attention to the sizes used.BTW,I ordered my AEM dry air filter a couple of days ago,and installed it this morning. Seems to do the job.

Yes Doc, u were right. I was wondering what size the (dia) is going from the id of the muffler inlet, down inside the muffler to the 1" dia restrictor. I'm thinking of cutting the restrictor plate out & reinstalling the stock muffler, but not sure what dia I can get down inside the muffler to that restrictor plate. If I try that, just wanted to know that dia b4 I take the exhaust apart & not have the correct tools. But the info u gave me is helpful. Thanks for everyone's help. Much appreciated.

Sorry I couldn’t help you with that..why don you just delete the muffler and see how you like it. If you don’t, you can try fooling with the restrictor plate..you are going to have to cut it anyway. :)

Well, I'm looking @ going into the muffler from the inlet end, looks like bout 33" with a hole saw & cutting it out. If that works, I won't have to cut the output pipe off. I am just hoping the flange on the input end comes apart easy enough so I can remove & reinstall after restrictor plate is removed. Doc, I do like the sound of yours but I'm just looking at relieving the back pressure while keeping the exhust quiet. Now if I could get it 2 sound like a v8 with headers like my 93 f-150, but that won't happen with a 4 banger. I have an nGuage plugged in, using it 2 monitor operating numbers, have the Roush CAI & the Roush Tune loaded so as I have been reading what u guys r saying about the exhaust restriction, I thought I need 2 improve my exhust back pressure. Then I started watching boost, intake manifold & exhaust psi on the nGuage seeing exhaust running in non-load conditions 14 to 16 psi while @ same time manifold is running 5-6 psi so that confirms what u guys r saying about exhaust restriction. I came 2 the conclusion I need 2 relieve that exhaust back psi b4 something else relieves that pressure 4 me. & all that brings me back 2 removing the 1" restrictor plate in the muffler. Hopefully there is only 1 restrictor in the muffler.

So I had my front end checked (level kit) along with the alignment and everything was good. They couldn't do the muffler delete because they don't have the straight pipe or do anything besides just a generic muffler replacement. So I went over to Firestone as I know the manager there and same thing. He at least gave me the number of another shop where that's all they do is exhaust but it's about 35-40 minutes from me and I had to many other things to do today. I did call them and they said $75.00 and just come in any time and they'll get it done. Should be able to get out there hopefully next week. Thanks guys for the info and will update once done.

Question:
Does anyone know if there are any other restrictions in the stock muffler besides the 1" restriction plate that is on the inlet side? Haven't seen any posts that someone cut their stock muffler apart for curiosity and may know how Ford designed the flow thru the stock muffler. I notice the inlet pipe is a solid pipe, without holes, up to the 1" restriction. So Ford is making all the exhaust go thru that 1" hole. Where does it go after the restriction? If the 1" restriction was removed, could the exhaust flow directly to the output pipe or does the exhaust still have to go thru media to get to the output pipe, then flowing out of the muffler?
Any info someone has would be helpful. Thanks in advance!

Hey, just wondering if you know of any muffler delete videos anywhere cause I would rather do that than a cat back system. I'm just a kid I don't have the money for it. lol
