I'm just going to go with a muffler delete, thats all I need. If I need to tone it down some,I'll get a resonator tip from Heartthrob. and put that on.
You won’t need to tone it down, just do it and then make your decisions..all the service people at Ford and the salesmen love the tone of mine....

Ha, just thinking w/all the talk of Cat Back Exhaust changes. As I'm thinking of any stock exhaust, the 1st main restrictive component would b the cat. If I was thinking of making 1 change, to exhust, that would b the most beneficial in pwr gain, I would think replacing the cat while keeping all other stock components. And the next restrictive component in my thinking would b 2 replace the muffler with a higher flow muffler. At that point, it seems that all other changes 2 exhaust may still give improvement but would b more of a minimal pwr increase. Not sure how correct I am in this thinking.
Do any of u auto engineers, that know a lot more about stock exhaust design, then my simple reasoning mind, to conform to emissions & etc, have any comments on my thoughts?

Is that the route you took? Just a muffler delete? Do you have a sound clip maybe?

I won't mess with the factory cat. That falls under emissions. And for me,it's not worth it. Jmho...

Ok. Sounds like good advise. I know they offer high flow cats for different vehicles. I wasn't sure what the actual engineering of them was. Thanks George. Info much appreciated.

Some on here did replace the factory cat with a performance one. That ain't for me. Depending on how the next gen ranger lariat will be offered in terms of possible engine options and a real tow pkg including mirrors built in trailer brake controller etc,I just might be trading mine in for a 'real' new ranger. I also want the cc with a long bed option. So I'm not going to go all out on this one. Just enough of Dr.Feelgood in the sound dept. Cheap, easy, and effective towards easier breathing for our sweet 2.3's. Happy Super Bowl day,to everyone, and of course, especially to the upcoming new super bowl champs,GO CHIEFS :clap::like::beer:

Just got back from the muffler shop. WOW !!!!! What a difference. Now I have a 3" exhaust all the way back, and a great sound, with NO drone. When I pulled in to the shop,my mpg average on the readout was 18.1.After I left the shop it shot up to 20.3 in less than 3 miles, all city driving. All for 60 bux. To anyone considering doing this, just do it. It sounds great when you stomp on it,and once up to cruise spd,ZERO drone. Don't buy into the ss catback bullshit for our rangers. For other vehicles, maybe, but as was stated on here, just getting rid of the muffler opens up the breathing just fine as frog hair, and that's pretty damn fine. THANKS DOC :rockon::beer::beer::beer::beer::beer:

Free flowing exhaust will definitely improve mileage within identical driving conditions. This is frequently canceled out by the human factor. The better spooling will make people inclined to participate in leadfooted antics.
