Things that disable the auto stop/start:
  • Manually disabling it
  • Engine not up to operating temp yet (lots of short trips, some people never experience it working)
  • Battery below the threshold
  • Tow mode
  • Sport mode
And steering wheel position or input.

Also any 4x4 mode disables ASS

My 2019 had this feature and my 2023 fortunately didn’t. Since my 2023 is the off-road model the entirety of the button panel upper left from shifter is filled out. I wonder where the button for ASS would be when you have FX4?

**Updated**
Reasons ASS is not available
  • Engine not up to operating temp
  • Battery below the threshold
  • Tow mode is active
  • Sport mode engaged
  • Steering wheel is turned left/right
  • Not depressing the brake pedal far enough at a stop
  • 4x4 is engaged
  • AC & defrost running
  • Manually disabling it
  • BMS trouble
  • Because She Said So

Yeah, you can look in the instrument panel, I think under fuel economy (but not 100%) and it will show why ASS may be off. Probably says off due to charging, which points to the short trips or bad battery.

If I recall, some of the new trucks had it deleted because of the chip shortage?
This is correct. If you go into the fuel economy menu and scroll up/down you will find the current status of the ASS. It will tell you why it isn't activating when you are at a stop and thinking it should.

Any draw on the 110 outlet (a small nightlight is the most popular) also disables it...

Just thought of it but my Ranger has not shut off at a stop light for over one year now . Not complaining just do not get it . Maybe because 90 percent of my driving is short trips . Believe me I am happy ! Any ideas ? Also no device is charging in ac plug .
This Screen on your Fuel Economy Section will give you a basic idea of what is happening. It will change while driving and show what condition might be keeping it from shutting off. Mine shows system charging or Outside Temp during the summer.

FYI, based on my experience with ASS: I noticed that ASS stopped working on the 2019 Ranger early this spring. Wondered why, but ignored looking in to it. My truck sits a lot and usually only short trips when it is used.

Late spring I take 700 mile road trip. After the 350 mile to portion (90% on the interstate), ASS started working again, and has up until early August when it started is long sit mode cycle again.

My conclusion is (right or wrong) without a proper full, deep charge, ASS self disables to save the battery. So I acquired a battery tender; mounted in the engine bay area (in a cool spot) with the 110v plug reachable through the grill to plug in when I think it will be idle for a while... now ASS works as it should all the time. Don't tow hardly at all and only occasionally sport mode.

Depending on you driving habits and electric load with OEM stuff and optional aftermarket electrical goodies, it may just need a good road trip.

  • AC & defrost running

If this means AC AND defrost, then perhaps. My auto SS still activates with AC on.

Mine hardly ever turned off the truck when it was new. Then I disabled it and now it never turns off the truck.

Yes, it will still activate with AC on. Typically it will not allow the truck to stay off for long to allow the AC to kick back in full force.

My 2019 Lariat never had any issues with it for four years, I live in a four seasons climate. My 2023 does not have it installed and I would say I prefer not having it. Without it and comparing to the same stock tires that weigh 35lbs, I would gain 1MPG overall weekly by allowing ASS to do its thing.
