I bought a 2022 tremor xlt on Feb 22nd (about 10 days ago) and the truck threw the powertrain malfunction code on the way home from the dealership. I took the truck to a local dealer to have it looked at. The few dealership service centers near me told me it would be a month before they could even look at it, but Billy Howell Ford got me in the following day thankfully.
They said it was the turbo waste gate, which they replaced a few days later however it did not resolve the issue. They are now replacing the entire turbo and we are waiting on parts. I should have the truck back by early next week. Luckily, they had a loaner vehicle so I have something to drive while we wait.
They did not indicate that this was common, however they had a new Bronco in for a similar issue. Another member on this forum is dealing with a similar issue with his 2022 truck, and as mentioned in his thread, I also wonder if the turbo part is from a different manufacturer than previous years as I cannot find any similar problems mentioned with owners of the 2019-2021 trucks.
Anyone else having turbo related issues? I hope that this is sorted with the new turbo and not an ongoing failure part.
No issue for me. And this is not a common issue.

Sucks, but you got bad hardware. It happens. That is the purpose of the warranty. No such thing as zero defects.

One other member on a forum does not equal a common problem.

You will get a new turbo, and 99.9% chance you wont see another issue with it.

I hear that. I'm a receiving inspector for a large company. I see it on a daily basis. I check EVERY product that comes in against spec sheets, proofs, and samples. If anything doesn't meet the spec, it gets a "non conforming report" and is put into quarantine until either the vendor makes it right, or if this becomes a more frequent issue, the vendor is no longer used. I turn down batches of products on a daily basis for not meeting the standard/spec. The vendors hate me, but my company loves the fact that I catch these issues at the door before the items are used. Saves the company headaches down the road with their customers.

Unfortunately, lots of smaller companies we use do not check their work before it goes out. Either the company simply cannot hire a person to do spot checks on their products or they simply hire people who just don't know or care. This country does not know how to build anything anymore IMHO. Everything is outsourced overseas and we just assemble those pieces hoping it all works together. This country needs to get back to making $h!t HERE!! Ok, I'm done with my morning rant....where's my coffee :fingerscrossed:
The people that produce bad parts are not using Quality Control anymore and probably, for years/decades... And if you don't use QC, this is what happens...
Someone has to do this....Every day.... Ask me how I know.....:)
Then there is the Quality Assurance people... :)
Oh, America !!!! What happened???

Your right it does suck for me and the others that have had similar issue. For you to not have had to deal with this the day you bought your truck is great and what I would have expected for myself.
Yes it does happen, and this statement isn't based off of one other guy in the forum. It is based off of the service manager as he stated that they have seen this issue on other new 2022 rangers and broncos. Not everyone of them, just some. With that said, my post states it isn't a common issue, but it is happening to others which btw Im sure it sucks for them too. I think you should read my follow up post again in case you missed it as it explains what happened.

Thanks! That confirms no turbo charger change for 2022. Same Borg Warner unit as 2019-2021 so that’s a good thing!
That is good news. Its odd how the wastegate arm was tweaked from the factory, but it seems to be a very rare issue so hopefully this one is flawless.

Those arms (external) can get bent as simple as a shipping issue. They are adequate for their designed function but not getting dropped/whacked etc. If it was internal then thats a whole different can of worms

I don't have a Ranger, but (finally) brought my '22 Bronco home this afternoon and this happened...oh, 45 miles into my trip home.
Waste gate arm bent also?

No idea - I *literally* signed the papers early this afternoon at the selling dealer, drove home, and haven't had a chance to get it to our local dealer, who likely can't look at it for about a week, anyway...

Hoping it's as "straightforward" as that, but I'll keep you posted. I'll try and take a photo of the engine ID tag the next time I'm outside in case that helps anyone ID any sort of pattern...

Sounds just like my experience with my Ranger. That is about how far I was into my trip home! Hopefully your dealer will get it sorted quickly. Let us know if it was the waste gate motor or the actual waste gate arm inside the turbo. Mine has been flawless since getting the new turbo installed.

Never got it there, as CEL cleared itself and boost was restored.
That lasted for about a week and 150 miles...now this afternoon, I'm back in the same boat, and dumping it at the dealer Mon morning.

Out of curiosity, what was the drive environment like when yours threw the CEL? Might be coincidence but found it strange both times for me, it was while trying to adjust speeds when merging on very busy on-ramps between freeways.

To be honest I am not sure when it exactly happened. II believe it was when I was getting heavy on the pedal to see what the little motor could do. I heard a chime sound ding, but didn't see any check engine lighting and wasn't sure what the chime was for.
Shortly afterward I noticed the wrench light was on. I didn't know what that meant as I am new to Fords (newer Fords that is), and I had my wife dig through the manual to see what it meant. At that point the check engine light was on, and a warning was in the display. The truck still seemed to drive fine cruising down the highway, so I was hoping it was some kind of an electrical gremlin. I got home and tried to see if it would reset, but the engine light/warning/wrench was still on the next morning. At the time the truck seemed to drive okay to me, but now that I have had the truck awhile after being repaired it definitely drives with more power. It seemed like the truck wasn't really using the turbo when it was damaged.

I think the issue was with the wastegate not closing all the way. You would then be essentially dumping boost so that’s why it would feel different.

I don't have any further details but last time I was up at Billy Howell Ford there was a brand new tremor that I was told had a failed turbo. Think it had sub 1,000 miles definitely under 2,000.
