What's up Ranger strangers!
I just wrapped up my 1000mi break-in period with 400mi of lonely desert highways, followed by some pre-runner style point to point off-road desert runs at considerable speed. The truck performed admirably in bone-stock form both in 2wd and 4wd for the deeper stuff. Traction control works well. Terrain management sand mode was not good- a liability in fact.
But generally , the truck was ripping through the desert
. I think all four corners were off the ground at certain points and the truck was begging for more. The stock tires were the limiting factor.
Mods:
Stage 1 (ordering NOW):
- Fox 2.0 Coilovers (FX4 Boaty handling is killing us- we live up 7miles of canyon twisties)
- Tubular Ball-joint UCAs (Probably Total Chaos)
- 32" or 33" A/T tires: Deciding between C rated or E rated, General Grabbers or Toyo Open Country. (I really want a lighter tire.)
- Wheels researching +20 offset (approx) 17x8.5 wheels. Hopefully under 25lbs. Probably Fuels.
- Xpel paint protection film for the sides of the vehicle
- Ceramic coat all around
- Rextrax PRO XR Rolling Tonneau (I need a 'locking trunk' for urban use.)
Stage 2 (Power Mods/ Desert Fun):
- Catback exhaust / CAI / Recirc valve
- FMIC Upgrade (it's hot out there)
- Tune (Preferably a dyno tune not mail order, lets see whats available in SoCal)
- Baja bumper (w/ bro-light bar)
Stage 2.5 (light-duty overland camping stuff
):
- Yakima Outpost HD Rack
- Ski/Board/Bike racks
- Onboard Air
- 12v Fridge
- Rack-top Tent
Bone-stock maiden voyage complete.....
See you around dudes! Updates soon! Parts coming...
