Yesterday I purposely did not active the Auto/Stop button. Imagine my surprise when I stopped at a stop sign and the little truck that could kept running! WTH? Now I hate that damn Auto Stop feature, but makes me wonder if something else is going on. Sigh.......a trip to the dealer to be sure no electrical gremlins or other demons are at work here. POOP!

If your AC or other engine condition warrant it, the Auto-Stop won't engage.

Yes I know about the AC and it was beautiful yesterday so that is not a factor. I did not turn the steering wheel either.

It will do this if the battery is not fully charged. Do you drive it every day or does it sit for a day or two? I bought a battery maintainer with my Ford Pass points and plug it in to keep the battery fresh and fully charged. Here's the Ford one and there's a similar one on Amazon cheaper which is exactly the same. I'll link it if I can find it.

Here's the CTEK which is exactly the same as the Ford one.

Did not think of that. I don’t drive it everyday. I do have a battery tender. I’ll give that a shot. Thanks.

I included the words "other engine condition" for a reason because there are other parameters that will cause the stop-start not to engage. Which include engine not warm enough, battery level, etc. Don't think there's a comprehensive list of what will cause this condition for stop-start kicking in or not.

Thanks for the input, I appreciate it.

Not sure if the XLT has this or not, but on the lariat there is a menu that will tell you why S/S isn't engaging - you see a gray A with a circle around it with a slash thru it that tells you it didn't engage - this menu tells you WHY it didn't engage.

It is under the Fuel Economy menu and there is an option for Auto StartStop.

Edit: Here is what the manual says about the conditions:
The system is automatically enabled every
time you start your vehicle if the following
conditions are met:
• The Auto-Start-Stop button is not
pressed (not illuminated).
• Your vehicle exceeds an initial speed
of 3 mph (5 km/h) after you have
initially started the vehicle.
• Your vehicle is stopped.
• Your foot is on the brake pedal.
• The transmission is in drive (D).
• The driver's door is closed.
• There is adequate brake vacuum.
• The interior compartment has been
cooled or warmed to an acceptable
level.
• The front windshield defroster is off.
• The steering wheel is not turned rapidly
or is not at a sharp angle.
• The vehicle is not on a steep road
grade.
• The battery is within optimal operating
conditions (battery state of charge and
temperature in range).
• The engine coolant is at operating
temperature.
• Elevation is below approximately
12,000 ft (3,650 m).
• Ambient temperature is moderate.
The green Auto-Start-Stop
indicator light on the instrument
cluster will illuminate to indicate
when the automatic engine stop occurs.

If the instrument cluster is
equipped with a grey
Auto-Start-Stop indicator light,
it is illuminated when automatic engine
stop is not available due to one of the
above noted conditions not being met.

This is the icon I was talking about:

Can confirm that the XLT will tell you why the Auto Start/Stop does not engage, at least in a general sense, under the Fuel Economy menu in the center instrument cluster screen.

Can also confirm that the manual is a good place to look if you want to know more about your truck and how it works.

My AutoStart did that for a day. I turned it off and back on again and now it works as it should.

Mine rarely shuts off the truck - info screen almost always says it's due to vehicle charging (sometimes due to external temp, or request for climate control). I don't do a lot of long trips though - work is only 3 miles from home for me, and with covid I don't run around near as much as I used to. I've popped it on a battery charger in the past over night, and the auto stop-start springs back into action with a completely full battery..and if I've managed to put some miles on the truck it'll shut off a lot for a few days... but in general it does not very often at all.
