Just started today in my 2021 XLT. 165,000kms, no fluid changes (I know, I know). Going to change rear diff fluid and trans fluid tomorrow. Anyone else experience this?

Mine did it from 3-4 and 3-5 around 78,000 miles. It was the CDF drum failure. It shifts amazing now with a fully updated transmission now.

When you say no fluid changes, I hope that doesn't include engine oil.

Conventional wisdom on this forum says Lubegard Platinum is a silver bullet for the trans. Depending on the condition of yours it could be cheap insurance. I added a quart to my recent fluid/filter change. .....we'll see.

Mine wasn't acting up but reversing did have a thud into gear. I recently changed my trans fluid & filter along with the Mike's dipstick & PPE shallow pan install. Any issues I had prior are COMPLETELY GONE.

I realize the standard fluid & filter change is not the most ideal procedure, but the drive right after finishing was like it was a whole different truck.

Side note: if you haven't seen it for yourself yet, ULV new right out of the bottle is so thin you'd thick it was Kool-Aid. There is NO WAY that stuff shouldn't be changed probably as frequent as every 30K which is what I'll be doing from now on.

I bought a quart of that before I even ordered the trans fluid haha. Fingers crossed, halfway through draining right now. Mental health break

So, I’ve drained the trans. It’s a bit shimmery with your expected small pieces of metal. The oil that drained out measured 5.5quarts. Is this how much I should put back in? Or is this slightly under filled?

Add the amount that came out including the Lubegard. (4.5 qts ULV). 5.5 qts is the service manual stated amount, but there is much more in the torque converter etc. If you have the time let it drain overnight to get up to a quart more.
Drive it until it is hot and recheck the level. This will be a PITA since the factory dipstick is only accessible from under the truck, right side of the trans under a cover cap. If you haven't removed the cap, crack it loose when the truck is cool. It's on tighter than tree bark.
If you have a numbered dipstick (shown below) the hot level should be between 5-6. If it is low, top it off slowly. 4 oz per graduation on the stick.
Also, since you're in this deep, replace the trans filter.

Unfortunately no time to drain overnight, I already took the day off today to do this. I am changing the trans filter as well. You are absolutely right about the dipstick being on tight, I had to go through the passenger wheel well to get enough oomph on the wrench to break it loose! Transfer case oil changed, rear differential fluid changed. Just need my wife to get back with the filter(I wasn’t going to do it but decided I would after I saw the oil and how much of a PITA this is), put the pan back on and refill! Thank you for your help everyone, will update if this fixed the noise I was having ??

Assuming this is cold fluid, the level is normally high. It will lower once the new fluid is warmed up and you check while the engine is running. .....more PITA.
When you have more time consider buying a Mikes Build shop Fitzstick. Aftermarket full length dipstick accessible from under the hood. You've completed the worst part of the installation which is breaking the OEM dipstick cover loose. It includes a custom funnel which makes future transmission service a breeze.

That was while running, roughly 11-12 mins after startup

But yes, I wish this wasn’t such an urgent thing as I would’ve ordered the aftermarket dipstick and pan
