My transmission came with the converter installed already. It is very difficult sometimes to get the converter all the way in. Sometimes when it gets forced it damages the splines and might need to be filed if it is damaged. Turn, push, turn, push, shake, turn, push usually gets it. I’ve even had to stand the whole thing up on its end to get it in there before.
Yes the converter was in the transmission but how on earth do you bolt it to the flex plate? The bell housing covers everything up.

I should have read the entire post lol, but the converter should have a 2-step drop in other then that it is very straight forward install
When installing convertor, as you push in the convertor while spinning it you will feel it drop once keep turning and it will drop once again and then is seated to the pump of transmission.

You have to turn engine over to keep installing the nuts one at a time

Hopefully you indexed the stud to the plate, if not no big deal, just involves more turning the engine.
You will note - there is only (1) way for the plate to install and all 6 studs' line up.
some of the holes are slightly (offset) of center- this is the reason to ensure proper alignment.

EDIT: At least at appears that way, either way - install nuts finger tight and rotate 180 degs and continue that - basically you want a (Star Pattern) similar to the lug nuts (wheels)
do not tighten any of them till all 6 nuts are started.
Then tighten in a - Star Pattern

I unbolted it and set it aside. You have to move some stuff out of the way to get there.
Okay I was thinking you pulled it completely. That’s easy enough. Thanks

I did some digging and cannot find anything regarding specific alignment (indexed) so it appears that as long as you get a stud aligned - they all should be aligned.
I was using the pics above as a reference (and some holes on the flex plate) appear to be off center and then ref the manual states to (make an index mark) which you would not have any way with a new T/C.

But just in case the manuals are missing something, and you are having alignment issues. If
you look at the T/C itself (Old and New) you will see a (small dimple) on the face of the T/C.
You could match that dimple on the old one and note orientation of the (index) mark on the stud (if this was done) and use that as a (transfer) index mark to the new (T/C) stud.

If you did not make an index mark and the old (T/C) has not been rotated, then you can use that position of the dimple to align the new (T/C)

First off thanks for the great information, it was a lifesaver. I’m happy to report the truck is back on the road. So I found my issue after pulling the trans. The converter wasn’t in it second step. Which is still enough to allow you bolt the trans. That extra pressure on the flex plate pushed the converter studs fwd making contact with the case. So I pulled the converter and inspected the splines and looked okay. Installed converter in trans and installed trans. Time to remove stock pan and install my pfe pan.
