Just got finished installing a new transmission on my 2019 ranger lxt fx4. Went to try starting it and just got clicks. At first I thought in was my battery. But tried jumping with another vehicle. And still clicks. Verify that the starter is engaging just not able to spin the fly wheel. My thought is that something got bound up when matting the trans to the engine. All bolts are torqued and installed. Is it possible to get the input shaft to slide in the torque converter and bolts tight without being right? Any thoughts would be helpful.

Will it turn by hand - Crank Pulley Bolt? unless @MY23RANGER knows something, I am missing, yes, he is correct but IDK how that would stop it from cranking over.
For me something is bound up.

Other possible factors:

Did you Index Mark the Flex plate during removal - (Stud to Plate)?

Starter not mounted correctly and (gear) is at an angle binding on the plate.

I would take a closer look at the flex plate attach bolts.
As in order for you to install, you would have had to rotate the engine by hand, may need to shim the starter (if shim kit is available) for the 2.3.

or Transmission is NOT fully seated to the engine block - is another possible, as best you can look for gaps around the mating surface.

new transmission has to be programed to the truck, valve body needs to be relearned also
It’s an aftermarket transmission and valve body. The techs from monster transmission said it just need to have the TCM flashed which I did.

It will not. I pull the plugs and put a breaker bar on the crank bolt. No joy.

I should have read the entire post lol, but the converter should have a 2-step drop in other then that it is very straight forward install
I did notice the converter has a floating type spline and then the fwd set. I couldn’t imagine being able to seat the transmission on the engine and bolt everything down without them being lined up. But I’m gonna pull it and see.

So the torque converter has studs that push through the flex plate with nuts on the back. When I installed the converter there was close to an inch distance from the nut/stud the back of the engine.

Yes the converter has a numb that slides into the flex plate and probably 8 or so studs that bolt through the flex plate. Before slide the trans on I could spin the motor with the converter installed. Which leads me to think the input shaft is bound within the converter. Which is worst case. I did take the start back off as well to verify the teeth we clocked right.

Did everything go together smoothly or did you use the bolts to pull things together?

Everything should slide together completely smoothly. If you have to use any kind of force to get the converter to mate up to the flexplate, or to get the trans and engine mated together then things aren't right and you can possibly damage the converter and trans.

My transmission came with the converter installed already. It is very difficult sometimes to get the converter all the way in. Sometimes when it gets forced it damages the splines and might need to be filed if it is damaged. Turn, push, turn, push, shake, turn, push usually gets it. I’ve even had to stand the whole thing up on its end to get it in there before.

Thanks, it wasn’t effortless but it wasn’t excessive either. It slipped on where the bell housings covered the converter and then took some rocking things. Working on pulling it back off. Hopefully not damage.

Yeah man tell me about it. I got the green one but I’ll feel everyone in on my experience with them after I get my core refund.
