Walked up! with touring skis or a splitboard, you attached "skins" to the bottom of the ski that are similar to a cat tongue material, they only allow glide one way, and traction on the snow the other. The binding in walk mode pivots so you essentially cross country your ski all the way to the top. at the top you put your skis back to ski mode, or put your splitboard back into a snowboard, lock the bindings in with a pin, peel the skins off and put them in your bag and ride down. Its a lot of work, but pretty much the only way to access big mountain backcountry terrain consistently without a heli or sled (both of which I am opposed too for personal reason). Most people in my area either ski tour or splitboard, its very popular in BC
Thanks Steve,

At first, I thought you must have used snow shoes for the trip up but I didn’t see any strapped to your pack. I’ve seen skins used on backcountry skis but I’ve never seen a split board before - zooming in, I can see how it works. Very cool - I guess it’s a bit like having shorter, wider backcountry skis but with a way better descent. Thanks, I learned something new.

Took a week off for my birthday to do a little camping and to attend the Moore 2021 Overland Expo in Springfield, Mo(just checked into the hotel a couple hours ago).

Day one my brother(in his Power Wagon) did some off-roading in Citrus Wildlife Management Area in Citrus County, Florida. That was our first real world experience with the art of vehicle articulation. Safe to say I had a few pucker moments. We did some dispersed camping at Hopkins Prairie in Ocala National Forest.

Day two took us to Osceola National Forest for some different off-roading.I really tested and well beyond the “water fording” limit of the truck. I saw the water at one point crash over the front of the hood and that was as I hugged the left embankment to keep the alternator higher. Surprisingly the alternator was dry, the engine bay did get a few sprays of mud. I wonder if the bash plate keeps the water from rushing in as long as you don’t sit in the water. We found a large pond a half mile from a paved road and set up camp there. Not as scenic as Hopkins in Ocala, seemed people do use parts of this area to dump their trash.

Day three(today) woke up early and drove 14 hours - 973 miles to Springfield, Mo for the show. Ranger drove great, though I want to invest in a better lumbar support.
