Wondering is anyone else is experiencing inconsistent acceleration? Some times the truck really puts you back, other times it revs high but feels like it’s just making noise, holding back torque.
I also feel like it’s quicker at 3/4 throttle than it is at full.
Looking forward to hear back.

Is your truck stock? If not, what hardware mods and is it tuned and if so what tune?

I noticed the behavior you describe, on my stock 2021 xlt fx4. It bugged me a lot, having it sometimes pull hard and others rev high but have/feel no power/pull. I also felt that generally if I stomped from a stop to WOT it was more likely to rev high and not "pull hard" compared to rolling into the throttle and never hitting 100% throttle.

Fwiw, I have no such behavior with a tune installed, but going back to stock it is clearly noticeable to me.

Bone stock here and your description is spot on. Which tune did you get and any regrets?

I am currently running the Livernois tune. I started with a SCT BDX with 5star tunes, I do regret that one, to me it was terrible compared to the others. After 5star I got a tune from Unleashed for the BDX and I really liked it, especially the tow tune. Finally, I decided to get the Livernois tuner and give it a try, I have no regrets on the Livernois tuner and tunes, they are amazing. Knowing what I know now I would recommend just going with Livernois. One benefit of the SCT BDX tuner though, is the preloaded "canned/ots" tunes that perform nicely for a reasonable increase in hp/tq and better acceleration/shifting, without having to pay for a custom tune. However, personally, I recommend just getting a custom tune, that way if you don't like how it drives or shifts you can get the tune adjusted.

Livernois tuner comes with custom tuning, that as far as I can tell is unlimited. For example, you can request whatever tune types, performance/towing, that you want without paying for additional tunes. This is not the case with Unleashed or 5star, where you pay for each individual tune you want. Unleashed will work with you to adjust a tune if it causes issues for you, 5star really doesn't do that from my own experience.

Also of note is that Livernois uses their own tuner hardware for loading tunes and that I am aware of only Livernois writes tunes for their MyCalibrator device. Other tuners like Unleashed and 5star write tunes for devices like the SCT and HPtuners.

Best of luck to you!

It does drive better in sport . I m almost always in sport and the observation I posted above is while in sport mode.
Yup, same as my experience. Also, stock tune sport mode holds on to those really high revs for what feels like an eternity.

Time for Pedal Commander?
Pedal commander doesn't change the engines behavior nor transmission, it simple spoofs the pedal input to try to improve throttle response. It may solve your issue, but if the issue is happening in sport mode I seriously doubt pedal commander will resolve it. Pedal commander is ~$300 and adds zero hp/tq or shift strategies. I would recommend just spending a little more and getting a tuner with a custom tune from Livernois or Unleashed. A tune will change the entire feel and behavior of the truck. Significant gain in HP and TQ, especially in the low and across the mid range, where you will feel it must when daily driving. A tune will also greatly improve the transmission shift strategies, and if you go with Livernois or Unleashed, (can't speak for others besides these three but 5star does not from my experience)then you can work with them to get your custom tune driving and shifting the way you want it to. Based on how a pedal commander works I doubt it'd satisfy the OP. It basically goes between your pedal hookup and where it connects so it can spoof your pedal input, I feel like the sport+mode would just be like an extra aggressive factory sport mode, or possibly be like stomping the pedal to the floor, like all the time....

Just to clarify, pedal commander doesn't spoof anything, it changes how the electronic throttle bottle responds. It is like using sport mode without the obnoxious high rev hold over.

However you are correct, for $200 more you can basically get the same results plus actual real power additions.

Once again another issue with Fords tuning.
Might look at the TSB’s on here and take the list of them to your dealer to preform. Might even be some hidden code that’s not throwing a CEL.

Im running a tune now but thinking about re-loading the stock tune and doing this.

I have unleashed tune in my truck and it performs very well. No jerkiness when cold, smooth power across the range of acceleration. I firmly believe modern vehicles have the most basic tuning and shift strategies and will really benefit from a reputable tuner working their voodoo on the PCM.

I've had my Livernois tune for a year now and love how the truck performs since getting it. I was on the fence for months about getting a tune but with our summer heat I experience a lot more turbo lag and hesitation. It did help with that but I notices a huge difference once fall came and we had cooler weather. It was so much more responsive and made the truck so much more fun to drive. Only regret I have was waiting so long to tune it!

You're correct that you get all of their tunes which is currently 5 and updates (if they have any) are free. Another nice thing is if you sell your truck and get another vehicle that Livernois tunes they will tune it for free. You just pay to send your Mycal tuner back to them.

My spouse usually giggles at my excitement about "turbo season" as I like to call it. On my Subaru's in the past I had separate tunes for turbo season and the rest of the year. Plus usually an extreme heat tune for road trips to very hot climates. I will have to see how this engine handles driving through various climates and elevations on the same road trip, while towing a travel trailer. I'll find out later this year and into next summer.
