I just got my Ranger about two weeks ago.

I want to disable the stupid auto start/stop, the automatic bright lights, and the horn honking if I press the lock button on my remote twice. Those things are annoying.

I already disabled my seatbelt warning and back seat occupant check nag screen. I also put the transmission in sport mode most of the time so it wont start/stop but soemtimes I forget.

I have a PC laptop, or also an iPhone. Any specific cables or setups you guys reccomend?

you can turn off auto brights straight from the dash computer. no need for forscan for that. I used 'em for awhile, and like them for some situations, but I encountered just enough where they were a problem that I turned them off.

Just so you are aware, that back seat occupant warning will return in 6 months.
From the manual:

SWITCHING REAR OCCUPANT ALERT SYSTEM ON AND OFF

  1. Press Settings on the touchscreen.
  1. Press Vehicle.
  1. Switch Rear Occupant Alert on or off.
Note: The default setting is on.
Note: Performing a master reset causes the system to switch on again.
Semiannual Reminder (If Equipped)
When you switch the system off, a message appears every six months as a reminder that the system is off. You can switch the system back on or leave it off.

Fair warning, there are cheaper OBD cables out there that will work but… at the chance of bricking your BCM it’s just not worth the savings. Go with the one Forscan recommendation and play it safe.

Oh! One last thing! Before you make any changes to anything backup every module and label the directory to FACTORY. That way if you ever need to reflash it back you have the original file to do so.

All good points. I recently sold my truck and reset it all to stock, and I have the recommended cable, which I don't need anymore. PM me if you want to work out a deal.

I really like having control over some options, though I didn't go crazy. I probably have about a dozen changes, give or take.

I didn't take backups of all my modules, but I did keep a spreadsheet of all the changes I made so I can put them back if needed.

I haven't changed anything for a year or more so I'd have to refresh my memory on how to do it... thank goodness for youtube.

I got the Vgate link cable. $35 and is endorsed by Forscan website so why spend more? Worked fast and flawlessly for me.

Can Forscan disable the safety feature of not being able to read text messages while driving?

The screen that pops up has a bunch of other stuff to read and buttons to push on it while driving, iunno why they think that the only thing you cant read is the text would make any difference?

I have not seen that option and have looked through most options.
