I had to do a long drive this past Sunday along the east coast. Basically flat, and zero traffic. 500 miles at a steady speed, and I got upwards of 30MPG. I also didn't know you put this much gas into a ranger. It claimed I still had like 30 miles! I'm used to driving in more hillly terrain, and average much less.

This was 100% cheap gas.

In the last 30 years I've never driven 500+ miles on I-95 with so little traffic. 😄 Was early Sunday, everyone was still sleeping off Saturday night I guess. My conclusion is that these trucks really, really hate stop-and-go. And hills. Maybe it would be different if I somehow didn't get into boost on the hills, but who wants to drive like their grandma on the way to church?

Yes, getting going from stop kills my MPG in front of my eyes...my long term gauge is set with 4 decimals and I can see it drop dramatically just getting out of my neighborhood...once on the highway doing steady 60+ the numbers start climbing back up...

Anyone notice the gap between 87 and 93 is closing? My local fuel giant, Sheetz has 87 at $3.43 and 93 at $3.65...hmmm...guess I'll fill up with 93...
Not here. it's at least 50 or 60 cents a gallon for plus an 90 cents to a buck a gallon for premium over regular.
no, that's not a thing here
Same here. If premium was only 22 cents a gallon more I'd never consider plus again (which is what I usually run)

I wish! There has been a consistent $0.60 cent difference between 87 and 93 in the MD/DE area for the last couple of months.

Definitely. Stop/go driving and hills make a HUGE difference in my observations. My best MPG in the Ranger was also on 95 last summer.

I wonder if the lack of traffic is/was due to the collapse in Philly?

Filled up this am. Premium 91 was $3.93 and 5% Ethanol blend is $3.33. I get 26-27mpg with 91 and 24.5 with the 5%.

I often question the accuracy of some pumps. They don't get calibrated that often.
BTW, I filled up at Sam's this morning and 93 was 3.269. That's down $0.195 from the last time I filled up there 2 weeks ago. But doesn't come close to where it used to be.

Here in Wisconsin our 87 E10 regular is running about $3.40 with premium 91 E0 about $4.30. We don't get 93 here. Some stations have a mid-grade at a .40 upcharge over regular and a few have an 88 E15 at about .20 less than regular. 90 cents per gallon is just to big a cost for not much gain. I'm actually running the E15 in Big Blue now with no noticeable difference. The only thing at my house that gets 91 E0 is my string trimmer, my snow blower and my motorcycle.

I usually fill up once a week on Wednesdays whether I need or not. I just happened to skip Sam's Club one week.
