can I ask a dumb question? is there a drain plug on the transmission pan or do you have to drop the pan for an oil change? if the pan has to be removed then why not change the filter and refill with oil?
The OEM pan does not have a drain plug. That is why many of us have or are changing the OEM plastic pan for an aluminum one with a drain plug. We are also installing a extended dip stick available from a member here, to more easily check the level, which needs to be done hot. My plan is to do a drain and fill every 30K and a filter change every 60K.

So why not install the Fitzstick and drain at 30k and 60k at which time install the aluminum pan and replace the filter at the same time, 2 birds with one stone!!

Labor at my dealer charges $ 169 an hour, so you have to factor that in. I don't know how many hours that job entails but seems like a big job.
Took them less than 2 hours. I checked the GPS on ford pass where the truck was from where I parked it.

I think you overpaid but not to the point of being "robbed" if that matters, but you could have pushed back and likely secured a lower price or just went with the flush for $350, dropping the pan changing the filter and then having to replace the lost fluid pushed the price higher, if they had been able to put the old fluid back before flushing it would have saved $$$ but that would have it's own set of issues.
I found the thread educational and helpful in formulating my ATF change plan, being a proponent of flushing I am thinking of dropping the pan, changing the filter and then having a shop do the flush, if the local dealer can do it for $250 I'd have all shiny new fluid in the box.

I think if they were trying to scam you for a service like that, there would be signals raising red flags. IE a conversation with the SA. Some are good salesmen, others are terrible, uniformed liars. Reviews, although taken with a grain of salt...

I thought a flush was not recommended.
I too thought a flush was not recommended since it can dislodge junk. I have the extended warranty which makes me nervous to not use the dealer. Using a 3rd party tranny shop could cause Ford to blame them if something goes south and deny a claim but 1000.00 is ridiculous. I plan to do it at 30k which for me will be in about 3 years. Can't they just drain, change the filter and gasket and refill?

so who is making the "not recommended" - someone on here or Ford itself ? IMO lots of fud around flushes that stems from tranny failures when the the tranny hasn't ever been serviced and higher miles involved, I've seen professional folks advise that if the milage is over 100k and the tranny fluid never changed best to avoid a flush. But I'd agree with changing the filter is best before the flush because that's were the majority of the "junk" would accumulate. And keep in mind both atf and clutch material has improved over the yrs.

well mine was not much different except that they actually highly recommended the filter change which made me happy i was asking for it anyway.../ $950!! lady on the phone said $269 i said yeah no way that is right but i won't hold you to that// service guy said $776 then when they gave it back to me he said it took an extra 1.5 quarts than he thought and that made it go up to $950... $674 labor $25 tax $25 parts. Crazy expensive labor. What i liked: he checked to see if they had the filter kit and yes they did, he said "we're cracking that thing open let's get this changed too" / same for the fluid. not exactly a flush but he seemed adamant that it was not a good idea to leave the other dirty fluids which add up to 2 quarts or so total floating around in the rest of it./// so not a total flush but they did vacuum the fluid from the torque convertor and cooler as well as drop the pan. Took about 4 hours and I am in Bay Area CA where everything costs more so well/ there it is... a lot of frikkin money but im at about 60,500 with no problems so hopefully this will keep it good for another 60...
Filter kit cost was just over $100 FYI

Rebuilt trans for a 4 wheel drive 2000 Ranger from Autozone with 3 year warranty is $1179. Ford says service every 150K.

I just had my transmission fluid and filter replaced on my 2020 XLT ranger. They charged me just under $1000. The truck has 67500 miles with no transmission problems at all. Most of the miles are highway and I do tow a trailer often. This being my first transmission fluid flush, I wanted the filter changed also. They didn't want to do the filter only the fluid. The quote on the phone was $350(for just the fluid change) when I dropped it off I told them I really wanted the filter also done. I received a call a hour later saying it was going from $350 to $700+ because when they change the filter the fluid loss needed to be replaced before being hooked up to their fluid flushing machine. So basically when changing the filter the 6 qts of transmission fluid had to be replaced with new fluid just to pump it back out when being flushed. The filter was $94 the gasket was almost $50 and almost twice the fluid needed. I think I was robbed.
While it's a real chunk of change, it's also the only thing you've done to the tranny in over 67K miles! That comes out pretty economical at about a penny per mile ... =)

what does this mean?!?
