We were up in Crown King AZ and residents up there often leave their hoods open with a flasher to keep the varmints away when they're not running for a few days

I had mouse pooh all over my garage one winter.
Since then I bought an electronic sound thing for inside the garage..
No problems since.
Of course, would not help where you were.

Funny you mentioned that. My cousin in Montana mentioned he does they same. Apparently it works.

Just so you all know.....

Tree squirrels (not to be confused with ground squirrels) are responsible, for nearly $500 million worth of crop damage each year. The majority of this, is damage to nut crops. In addition, they're one of the most destructive of all rodents, second only to rats. Yet, about half the state's have hunting seasons for them (?). Fortunately, in most of these states, taking them (euphemism for killing them) is legal if they're damaging crops.

Here in SE New Mexico, the main crop is pecans. I spend hours hunting tree squirrels with an airgun, in an attempt to minimize their numbers in the various pecan orchards around my home town (Roswell).

The only word I can use, to precisely define tree squirrels, is simply... EXTERMINATiBLE VERMINE!

A lot of modern vehicles use a soy based wiring jacket that is like ambrosia to varmints.

It started out as a way to be eco friendly but has turned out to be cheaper than petroleum based wiring covers so it got more popular.

Get either a cat or THIS

That’s exactly what we use

My mother has a Cadillac that sits in the garage a lot since she doesn’t drive much. Calls me last year, car won’t start. I go over to take a look, cranks but won’t start. I had some quick start with me, opened the airbox to spray it in, and the airbox was packed full of peanuts.

Very long story short. A critter nibble on my 2019 Ranger wiring harness. 2 months later and $3400 less rich and she's as good as new. Enjoy the pics ??

I use this in the Ranger. Peppermint oil, and cotton balls inside of a metal can box. You can get a magnet and put anywhere in your engine bay or inside the cab. So far it's working out for me. I use to have a 1500 Dodge truck that the cables got chewed as well.
