More thoughts on this issue. I'm wondering if the decision to remove the struts might have something to do with the hood (and panels) changing from aluminum to steel? Steel weighs about 2X more than aluminum. Maybe the engineers felt the hood struts couldn't safely support the extra weight?
BTW: I don't mind either way. I do like to delve into the how's and why's of manufacturing and engineering issues.:)
That's most likely the case. When they were designing the first damper they had a hard time getting the rebound right because of the light tailgate. It would either close way to fast or be to hard to push back up. I bet the struts need to be redone for the steel hood they're coming with now. They still should've included the ball mounts though.

Plugging in the battery tender.

Hood struts are so choice, hearing that nnnneeeeeaaaaaarrrrr sound when I open my hood. There's no going back, a prop seems neolithic now.
I installed a blow off valve on my hood struts for that extra arousal.

just a legit question for those who have a prop rod and are complaining about not having gas struts...how often is your hood open?
It first occurred to me when I was looking into what it would take to replace my headlights. You have to disassemble quite a bit of the front including the panel that the the prop rod is mounted to. So, either I have to take the hood off or get a 2x4 to hold it up.

If Ford is going this route they should hinge the hood like they do with the Jeep. Jeeps come with a prop rod but I can lay the hood all the way back against the windshield. It makes it convenient doing work on it.

Wow talk about getting ripped off...so if inflation and gas prices aren't bad enough...you pay more to get less? Let's see...

  1. no rear folding headrest
  2. no glove box damper
  3. no PRNDS light
  4. no console cubby
  5. no hood damper
Did I miss anything?
And no plugs for all the holes on the rocker panel (both sides) only about a dozen holes down there and looks incomplete without the plugs. Would be nice to have them to prevent water & debris from entering the void to prevent premature rusting. Discontinued on 21 model

They might be allowing the water to drain back out too. Maybe Ford considers that to be a form of rust prevention???

I just hate prop rods man. But in this single instance gas struts are acceptable, but the real deal is spring loaded hinges like on my 79 F100. Nothing in my way while turning wrenches, except my own ego and overall lack of skill. ?

I'll tell a quick story about hood struts.

One day changing the oil on my dakota few years ago, I was looming over the engine pouring the oil in. Without any warning, BAM the sob slammed down on my head.

Left a little gash on the back of my skull/neck area and left me with a mild concussion...

Anyway point is, Hood prop rods do kind of suck and the price should reflect that, But I can usually trust em for two reasons; They're solid and usually have a hook design so even if the wind lifts the hood up it usually stays hooked in.

Struts usually let go without warning.

Who is this "props rod man" and why do you hate him so much?

Oh, and crappy shock absorbers from the factory. At least my '19 Lariat has all of the other stuff. For what Ford charges for the Ranger, I was expecting premium pieces throughout....at least a gold plated vehicle with a V12 motor!!!

My 2019 lariat not only has an engine cover, hood struts but a actual working light when you open the hood.
My 2019 Lariat doesn't have a light under the hood?!
