I'm not sure what your budget is but I always liked the Method wheels and was thinking about getting them on my '19 before the accident. Here's the ones they have for your '21 Ranger. Most of them have several different colors so there's plenty there to confuse you even more. lol

I ordered the Ford Performance wheels from Benny @LevittownFordParts.com and even though they're on back order, they were worth the price. 4 wheels, 4 TPMS sensors and the activation tool. And the price is now lower....figures

And you thought deciding on which approach to front suspension (UCA vs LCA) was tough. This rabbit hole is even deeper.

You should be able go up to 275/70R17 (32.2”) without rubbing on crash bars or wheel liners if you keep your offset to +25mm or greater. They also won’t stick out too far and will likely come up flush to the wheel lip.

Those Black Rhino wheels in the pic you posted are nice and look a bit like the silver wheels that came with my XLT. This pic shows those wheels and also how much bigger a 32.2” tire is compared to factory 255s.

I think I got the tire size just right for my Fox shocks set at 2” but I might have gone a touch low on the offset of the wheels at +15mm. It was very close to rubbing on the crash bars even after I removed the plastic covers from the fronts, loosened the fronts and rears, angled them out of the way, and gained 1/4”. Just to be sure, I installed the ReadyLIFT anti-intrusion beams - it’s a bit of work. With +25mm or higher, you can likely avoid this extra work and expense. This pic was taken when the flares were off and it shows how much poke my truck has at +15mm with my 275/70R17s. Those Black Rhinos would be pretty much flush.

They stuck out enough that mud and stones were an issue. I have deep pocket style fender flares but a slimmer version would do the job just as well and look better. My choices for fender flares were limited due to it being a SuperCab because some (not all) rear flares have a flat spot at the front of their arch to account for how close the SuperCrew cab and rear wheel are to each other. You can see it in this pic.

It’s too bad Ford stopped making the Tremor wheel trim pieces - they would look great on your truck. Also keep in mind that deep fender flares with OEM offset wheels (+55mm) will make your truck look like it skipped leg day.

I can sympathize with your situation as I was in the same boat as you at one point. The number of wheel and tire choices can make your head spin for sure.

I would say that to go with 17-inch rims over 18-inch rims (depending on your financial situation) is a solid move. A lot of guys (myself included) think they ride better than 18s (depending on what your ultimate goals with the truck are) because of the extra sidewall, and it definitely opens up more tire choices.

Honestly, a perfect option for you might be the Ford Ranger Tremor wheels (the 17x8 version, NOT the 17x8.5 Ford Performance version) . I actually went with them for my truck, and they hit every point you mentioned:

• Size & Tires: They are 17-inch rims, which will give you that better ride and a ton more tire options to pick from.
• Color & Cleaning: They come in a dark "Magnetic" gray that looks almost black and has a simple spoke design that's really easy to clean.
• Weight Savings: They're also pretty lightweight for a factory wheel (around 25 lbs). Keeping that unsprung weight down is always a plus for handling and suspension response.
• The Perfect "Poke": The offset is lower than stock, so they'll stick out a bit for a more aggressive look that will work perfectly with flares. The change in offset gives the truck a more planted and stable feel on the road. While a big offset change with aftermarket wheels can sometimes make steering feel heavy, the Tremor setup is what Ford's engineers designed for the truck, so the handling feels confident and correct. The offset is designed to give you clearance from the inner suspension and struts, which is where you can get into trouble with some aftermarket wheels. It pushes the wheel out for a bit more aggressive look, and while it's closer to the fender, it's a known quantity designed to work with larger tires, especially on a leveled truck.
• No Balance or Fitment Guesswork: This is the biggest win. Since you're worried about balance and compatibility, you can't beat a factory wheel. Because it’s an OEM wheel, the fit is guaranteed. You don't have to worry if the offset change is "acceptable"—Ford literally designed this exact setup for the Ranger platform. It’s hub-centric, so no rings are needed, and your local shop will have zero problems getting them balanced perfectly.

Even if you don't go with these specific rims, hopefully I've given you some good metrics to consider in your search.

Go for the 17's. They'll give you more tire options and a more comfortable ride both loaded and unloaded.
Food for thought; Black wheels are not easy to keep clean, especially if you live in a dusty or muddy environment. Every time the sun hits that gloss/semi-gloss paint you're going to see the dirt and brake dust caked on. Grey/Silver/Bronze will "look" much cleaner regardless of how clean you keep them.

For some additional context making your decision, here's a set of KO3 285/70r17s on some 17x8.5 -10 American Outlaw Lonestars. Just got these tires a couple weekends ago.

Going up from a 265/70 to a 285/70 tire with that low of an offset required a considerable amount of cutting on the front crash bars and the rears to be notched. Otherwise, I was rubbing at ~1 - 1.25 turns on my steering wheel.

New: 285/70r17s

Old: 265/70r17s

And off road 1% of the time.
After the ATs wear out. I'm going back to the Goodyear Wrangler Fortitude HTs that I was running on it when I first joined. They are good all season tires for the changing weather conditions.

With a dark grey truck I think you could successfully pull off silver, bronze, or black - I agree that a graphite or an anthracite color could clash.

Bright silver wheels on a dark grey truck looks great in my opinion. The right bronze could be spectacular as well.. just depends on if you like that look.
