So here’s a new one. I finally got around to putting a tune on my Ranger. Using a very reputable tuner that many of you are using and have full confidence in. The thing is, while I can tell the shift strategy has changed and it’s more responsive I don’t feel any difference in Max power. I know for a fact that boost has been increased from the data logs.
Any ideas?

Interesting for sure. Have you spoke with the company you received the tune from? I run Livernois tunes. It’s definitely noticeable between a tune installed and stock.

Which company? I use livernois soft shift tune with 87-89. Its very noticeable in sport mode. I used to use 93 soft shift but when they did an update to the tune something felt different and it didn't seem much different from stock.

That’s interesting. I wonder what Livernois would say? I haven’t updated my tunes since I received them in early 2021. Loaded the tune when I did my first oil change. I guess the only way to really know is going to the dyno and comparing stock vs tuned.

I was wandering the same thing, as I rarely nail it and did no before and after comparable runs to compare. I just know that with the tune it really shits and gits. Just today on the way home I smoked a Mazda and while I didn't immediately floor it, I got it moving then floored and it spun the rear wheels when it changed gears. I think the tune is there!

I barely have any wheel spin at all even when brake torquing it.

That is a ball scratcher. So if you floor it from a dead stop, no wheel spin? Even when it shifts?

That is a ball scratcher. So if you floor it from a dead stop, no wheel spin? Even when it shifts?
Maybe traction control is active?

Out of curiosity how much boost are you talking about? How do you know for a fact that it was increased? It’s going to be up and down in the log based on load and a ton of other factors. A lot of tunes use increased ignition timing more than increasing boost pressure so much to keep the turbo in its best efficiency range. Is this a 93 octane tune? 87? E30?

Rather than compare the boost pressure I suggest you look at “airflow in pounds per minute” or “load” they are much better indicators of the power calculations made in the ecu. Airflow lbs/min is pretty close to flywheel horsepower if you move the decimal point over. If you’re making over 30lbs/min at wot on the top of say fourth or fifth gear then it’s making more than stock power.

91 octane performance tune. Shows 22psi on the log. Thanks for the tip on what to log. I’ll try that.

Boost in psi will max out at 22.78psi or something similar fyi. It won’t read higher. Look at airflow, I’ll show you mine if you show me yours ?

Nope, not much. I had traction control and stability control disabled.
I’m running 265/70 r17 10 ply Rugged Treks which are heavy. I think 52lbs each and can punch it not floor it from 10mph and spin the tires. That’s with traction control on. I’m tempted to flash mine stock just to see the difference.

My Livernois tune with 91 octane fuel was a beast compared to stock. I went down to the 87-89 tune because with the high octane tune the truck would just spin before finally hooking an taking off, even in 4wd. I had more power than I could easily put to the ground. With the low octane tune it would chirp the tires an give me limited spin on a hard launch.
