Keeping a running tally of the weight is standard practice for me when I’m placing orders for lumber or landscaping supplies. If it’s too high, I have it delivered.
Agreed. Despite the capability of the truck, I prefer to have bulk loose material (dirt, rock, mulch, etc.) delivered if I can get it dumped reasonably close to my project. It’s much easier shovel off the ground than out of the bed of my truck.

This thread reminds me why I decided to buy the Ranger in the first place mostly commuting and fun with the part time need to haul stuff to and from work and what not. If I had the to buy a dedicated full size HD work truck and carry large loads I would have. Hauling bulk top soil or stone in most trucks is going to be hard on it at 2000 lbs a yard our Chevy 3500 dump body doesn’t even enjoy hauling more than 2 yards at a time ( especially when it’s soaking wet) to put things in perspective.

Agreed - always have the right tools for the job. If the OP was hauling that kind of load two or three times a week, he would need more than just better springs……

I bought one of these, works great! Could not belive how easy it was. Keep everything on the tarp and it unloads in seconds.

I’ve seen those for years and they look convenient. I love that little rake on their website there for getting the crap outta the bed liner. That’s always the worst part is getting the leftover stuff out of the bed.

I'm just curious if you got into the bump stops in the rear with that load. Got a picture with it loaded?

Thanks for the follow up replies. Yes my point was just to share my experience as I saw some other questions posted searching.

That pic is loaded. It still had a lot of play in suspension. Never bottomed out.

you may not have noticed anything out of the ordinary, but i have an anecdotal story of a case where things went awry later on.

A friend had a large property, and in the summer months we did hay and worked the farm tractors hard in the summer heat.
we had a small river crossing that would handle the tractor and the empty hay wagon with ease.
never a problem
when we came back with full loads of hay, the bridge talked to us, but hey, it looked fine, it handled it ok. so we continued.

ffwd the next summer, and we continued our charade of safety and the second load we crashed the hay wagon right through into the creek. No one got hurt, the tractor was fine. the hay bales somewhat soggy and the wagon had a bent axle....

just a thought to ponder.
Moral of the story. Maintain you bridge.

But what does this have to do with a leveling kit? Did you put leveling kit on the tractor? Or the trailer?

I believe that the point of RP’s metaphor was that damage may be done, even if it isn’t immediately obvious.

The weight of the rocks could be more depending on moisture. Usually you can buy a half yard for half price and make two trips. Did you have to put up those sides to contain the load?
My buddy worked for a gravel company and he told me of a co worker that loved to dump too much into the little 1/2 tons and watch and laugh at them struggling to haul the overload.

yes. The part I didn’t get was why he took all the time to write that when just saying, “hey all because you didn’t experience anything bad doesn’t mean you didn’t break something” Would have sufficed.

put the top of just in case of blowing dirt. The dirt was below the truck edge and even space around in there.

when I got the Gorilla fir mulch, now THAT was overflowing. But considerably lighter.

Should be able to physically fit a yard with room to spare in the supercrew. 1 cubic yard=27cubic feet.

I'm old school I guess, if I still got a few inches before I hit the bump stops, I'm good. If I'm touching the bump stops with the axle tube, then my bad. If I break something before I'm on the bump stops, then Ford's bad.?
