Finally got the radio installed. Running the wires was a major pain. Ended up running them down the left side towards the back of the truck. It seems no matter what route it tried I kept running into some sort of barrier. Once the wires came down by the gas pedal, I zip tied them all over to the grommet where the hood release latch passes through the fire wall. Getting the wires through that grommet was difficult as well. Glad I decided to not remote mount the body of the radio.

If anyone knows of an earlier way to route wires through the dash maybe the next person can benefit.

No drilling. That’s a clam on lip mount. Not ready to drill anywhere yet.

My dad was a ham back in the 70's, everything was Morse code. Anybody he made contact with they traded postcards with their call sign. I think CQ was a universal call sign for anybody that wanted to make a contact? I thought about getting into it now that I am retired. But cool install and glad you did not wound the hood.

Got mine installed finally. Antenna wire comes in through the weird vent behind the rear seat, fished wires up to the dash tray for the faceplate.

The power is currently cigarette lighter(ew), but will be running power from the fuse panel as soon as I can figure out where the positive lug is, and how to access it.

EDIT: As soon as I wrote the cigarette lighter thing, I felt bad and ran the power through the hood release grommet.

It's the "factory" pedestal that comes with the D710GA. I do have a LIDO seat bolt mount, but ford hid all of the seat bolts, so I didn't even bother trying it.

Finished building a custom mount for my VHF/UHF antenna. I didn't want to touch the body so I fabricated this mount to attach to the frame at the rear of the truck. Ran the coax under the bed and through a body grommet at the right rear of the cab. Had to pull back some of the felt to get to it. Got a 1.2 - 1 SWR.

I did a similar setup but ran my cables around to passenger side then under the top of the fender...then finally into the cabin going under the door seal. Don't have a pic but will later...short wave on pass side, CB on right...

Not so far but it's only been in operation one day. I'll post any problems.
