My deer rifle is a 30-06. It is a sporterized M1903, made in 1919. After WWI, the Army sold them off to gun companies, who sporterized them then sold them. Mine was done and sold in 1955, and has a Bausch and Lomb scope that is as clear today as it was then. Back in the day, the scope cost 3 times what the rifle did. After 30 years of hunting with my pre 64 winchester 70 30-06 my grandfather gave me, today I decided to promote her to safe queen and picked up a savage axis 6.5 Creedmoor. Hopefully this thing will treat me as nicely as the aught six did.
