After 30 years of hunting with my pre 64 winchester 70 30-06 my grandfather gave me, today I decided to promote her to safe queen and picked up a savage axis 6.5 Creedmoor. Hopefully this thing will treat me as nicely as the aught six did.
My deer rifle is a 30-06. It is a sporterized M1903, made in 1919. After WWI, the Army sold them off to gun companies, who sporterized them then sold them. Mine was done and sold in 1955, and has a Bausch and Lomb scope that is as clear today as it was then. Back in the day, the scope cost 3 times what the rifle did.

Since I've got a trophy ram hunt coming up soon and im going do a trial by fire on this 6.5, i ordered a vortex crossfire II scope to replace the Probably junk weaver that came with the rifle. Hopefully this thing performs, I've got my little black heart set on a gorgeous ram mount for the trophy wall.

some of the old weaver scopes are pretty good. but they are likely made in china now.

Get good data on your rifle and confirm it. Use a chronograph to get actual velocity data, not box listed velocity based on a test barrel, then there are several decent ballistic calculators that will give you expected drops at distance. Hornady 4DOF is a free one for your phone. You’ll enter in everything from zero distance, sight height, temp, barometric pressure,….

Good data in, good data out!

Years ago I was working for a large corporation and we had to do active shooter training. The trainer asked my co-worker what he would do if someone came in the building with a gun and my co-worker replied "I'd do whatever Brandon does." Made me feel good to know people think I know what I'm doing, but I did tone down my firearm talk at work because... that training talked about how people who love guns too much are dangerous.

I taught active shooter response for years. To both LE and private citizens, businesses, schools, etc. Amazing how many people would just give up and accept fate, including some in LE (as we have witnessed in the news). At least half of the businesses had a policy of not fighting back.

Nowadays you can't talk about anything without being labeled as dangerous and someone being offended. Worked with a guy that was always too excited talking about shootouts. He is the kind you keep an eye on even if he's on your side.
I try to limit my political and gun talks to people I know.

Woo hoo! It's going to be a good weekend. Today, I'm going to a buddy's shop (my old boss at the Ford dealership) to make a holster for my Springfield Prodigy. Tomorrow we're going to the range (but I'm probably taking my Mustang) to shoot. It's going to be a good weekend!

Amen. Hitting the range with a work buddy today.

Mostly gonna be shooting my 226, but need to run some rounds through my SR22 pistol as well. I've been experiencing some FTEs and FTFs in it. Just swapped in the Tademcross guide rod and spring. We'll see if it works. Also got my LC Carbine all put together so we'll run her a bit too.

I got the wife a Glock 43 about 2 yrs ago, that she's never shot. I got a Glock 30 about 2 months ago.

I took yesterday afternoon off and went to shoot them both. It was my first time shooting a Glock.

I was really surprised by how nice and predictable the trigger is, and how the smaller frame 30 ate the 45 recoil.

The G30 is my new carry weapon after that. I shot it much better than my current EDC (which I brough along and shot also).

The water hose spraying grip angle didn't feel weird?

I dislike Glocks for this reason. They're alright, but I couldn't buy one.
