I used the wrong grease the first time.. After using the correct grease my stop bump is completely gone. Amazing Ford could not get this right from the factory.

stuff
going on 3 weeks and no eta on the part- it's on backorder.

if i had to do it over again, i would not have taken it in and let it grenade 3 years from now and it would be their problem. Now, i am out of my truck for 3 weeks and i need a 4x4 pickup. Not a rwd explorer. I escalated case at ford last friday and they promised a call by today but no word.

this will be my last new ford.

Pick up the truck and order the Tom Woods driveshaft and move on (IMHO).

ummm, no. the tsb they are working off of also has them replacing pinion stuff. It has a warranty. They need to fix. I'm not fixing or paying to get fixed fords crap that is under warranty for many years to come. They will be 100% responsibile for any damage done to my truck while they have it and if they deny/refuse etc, then they will be hearing from my lawyer.

I like them too, but in moderation. The meat is too tangy for anything other than seasoning, so my friends in Beijing tell me.

Seriously, I still miss a cat I rescued off the side of the road years ago. He was extraordinary, very intelligent. He was also a show off. He'd run up stairs and stick his head through the balcony staircase rails and meow loudly until I looked up above me. He then jump on the rail and feign falling off just for the attention.

I could hold him in front of a mirror and talk to him, and he'd look into my eyes through the mirror. He was self aware. Most cats will turn their heads and look at you.

I had another cat when I had Bubba. We'd be up in the bonus room with door closed and Bubba would throw himself at the door wanting in. So I picked up a driveway alarm and sat it on the steps near the bottom of the stairway figuring the alarm would scare them away. The first cat crossed the alarm beam, the alarm sounded and he ran away. Then the strangest thing happened, The alarm started to sound every few seconds! It sounded 17 times before I opened the door to see what was going on. It was Bubba sitting in front of it staring right at it and moving his head to trigger the alarm! He was using it as a tool to annoy me and get me to open the door!

I let him in... I still miss Bubba!

I am having this same problem, (i just started noticing it with 22,000 miles)
a thump/bump at stop and start and a very noticeable vibration at around 15 or so MPH.
I'm torn as to go thru the dealer mill or do the TW drive shaft and be done with it,
I have the EXT warranty and want Ford to be responsible based on principle, OTOH my truck was sitting for 6 weeks last Dec/Jan to have the warped heater box replaced, most of that time was waiting for the parts.
Also, i have the 'global' multi leaf spring pack, non stock shocks (so its leveled) larger tire size from stock, will they notice or care??? Try to deny based on those mods???
And one more issue im not sure is related or a separate problem a harmonic whine de celling from 65 to around 59 or 60 mph,
Ford you're testing my patience & loyalty.

Poor design based more on cost than on performance.

Ford made the driveshaft to be disposable. I think maybe the labor and dealer costs to service are more expensive than replacement and installation costs.

Here is my reasoning
I had a team that built the desktop platforms for IBM corporate. 300K employees. I gave explicit instructions to the I/T service team. If you can't diagnose the problem in 15 minutes, take the system to the lab, and reload the image and migrate the data. If after diagnosis, you can not correct in 15 minutes, take the system to the lab, and reload the image and migrate the data.
Here is why I gave the Service Techs those instructions. I had built an automated re-image and migration of data process that took a maximum of 45 minutes, and I knew with 100% certainty that the problem would be corrected in 45 minutes.
I believe Ford is following similar logic.

BTW, Those replacing with the original driveshaft design will have the same problem again down the road. Ford sees It as a consumable part.

Some people simply ignore the problem and live with it.

I'm not one of them... it drove me crazy.
The driveshaft is built by Dana/Spicer not Ford

I am aware who built the Ford Driveshaft. Dana/Spicer built it to Ford engineering specifications and pricing constraints.

As an exercise go to the Dana / Spicer web site and use their driveshaft calculator to see how the Ford 2 piece shaft stacks up against the Tom Wood's Single piece driveshaft.

Hint: I've ran those calculations long ago and It isn't even a close. Ford's design was rated far lower.

And I over rated the Ford parts diameter.

Im fully aware of and versed in everything you’ve stated in your reply . I was simply responding to the “Ford made the driveshaft “ statement. Incase you were unaware of who supplied the driveshaft and not to deflect blame away from Ford.

Dana / Spicer is a major supplier for most all manufacturers in this market area.

My point is that it is Ford's responsibility to insure that the components they source are durable and within safe operating standards. I believe that they cheaped out, and we as consumers are left with a vehicle that doesn't perform to expectations, or isn't as reliable as previous generations. It's a real shame too.

Sometimes written text is easily misunderstood. We are good.
