Just be aware that 7,500# towing is when 'properly equipped'. The tow package alone doesn't get you 'properly equipped'. You will need some kind of trailer brakes control, either add an approved electric brake controller, or a trailer with surge brakes.
Very disappointing for sure that Ford just didn't add a trailer brake control to the dash like the F150. It's already prewired, just include the switch if one is already paying good money for the tow package!

I think those are the base numbers before FX4. At least that’s my guess. If you take the curb weight from the GVWR, you get pretty close to those numbers on the website.
Oh good point, FX4 isn't included in the table, just 4x4. Still though, you think 4x4 and FX4 have nearly a 150 lb curb weight difference? Guess the skid plates add up.

It seems obvious when you think about it, but what's often not taken into account when it comes to payload is that the truck doesn't know the difference between pounds of sand you've dumped in the bed vs pounds from mods you've added/yourself/your spouse/your kids/your dog/your full Big Gulp, etc.

The specs from Ford break things down between SuperCab and SuperCrew, 4x2 and 4x4, and Tremor. What they're showing you is base (AKA max) payload - which I would assume to be an XL (other than the Tremor specs) with no other options. Add FX4? Skid plates, etc. add weight. Add tow package? Trailer hitch adds weight. XLT package weighs more than XL, Lariat weights more than XLT. SuperCrew weighs more than SuperCab. Want max payload? Get an XL Supercab 4x2 with no options.

I have an XLT Scab, 302a, FX4, tow package. Door sill says 1,549 pounds. I've added a tonneau cover, bed mat, aftermarket side steps, ratchet straps, etc. that probably account for about 200 lbs. Add my own weight to the 200, subtract that number from 1,549, and that's what I can haul in the bed and be within specs.

Right. The 7,500lbs (with towing package) will suit me well. It’s the payload I’m wanting to make sure I’m grasping. My current vehicle has a payload of 1150. I’d like to be able to brings bikes and kayaks. But when I factor in kayak rack of some sort, WDH, and FX4 package, I may be pushing it (2 adults and 2 kids).
Remember to include tongue weight to your calculations.

Thank you. I thought I saw somewhere a WDH was also part of a properly equipped truck, but I cannot locate anything that suggests that. Did I make that up?

My 2020 Lariat FX4 501a with towing package shows 1330lbs. Strange, to me, that there's so much variance between everyone.

My guess is that they weigh the trucks at the plant and determine payload by subtracting curb weight from GVWR. Then they print the door jab label, so each payload figure is custom for each truck, down to the pound. Depending on the specific combination of options you get, seat materials, tow hitch, etc., all add up to determine a custom payload figure.

2021 Supercab XL FX4 4x4 is 1585lb payload.

Very interesting to see all of the different numbers.

I not too sure about it, but I don't think a WDH is needed in the case of a Ranger. With max towing of 7500#, the tongue shouldn't exceed 750#, which is within the payload capabilities of the Ranger.
Somebody with more expertise in WDH will have to answer.

Pretty sure I saw that also. Something to the effect that if your tongue weight is above 500lbs a WDH is required. I can't find it now either.

Ahh. That does make a little more sense. I have the black appearance package, which adds 18" wheels and spray in bedliner. It also came with a factory added weather guard truck box, so I guess it all removd a bit of total payload capacity.

But to add to the confusion, some "factory" options are just installed at the dealership to streamline the factory process. So who knows haha. But yes, I would imagine the different wheels, tires, skid plates, bedliners, power vs manual seats, etc all make a difference.
