Hello every one
on my 2019 ranger the front collision warning system will pop up a message that it is blocked and can not work, anyone have any ideas as to why it is doing this. Also I need to update the maps in the navigation system wher can I find the update?
Thank You
Karl

A number of things can render the front collision radar effectively "blind." I've found that mine doesn't like heavy rain, heavy fog, snow, ice, etc. Also watch out when driving at night because sometimes you can get a false collision warning SPECIFICALLY if you're approaching a traffic light at the crest of a hill...at night. Ask me how I know (SHUT UP YOU DAMN TRUCK!!!!) ?

No idea on the navigation thing though since I didn't buy the tech package.

Look for dirt, bugs, or bird crap on your windshield, in front of the camera. Because you have the Lariat trim level, I believe you have ACC and I think the pre-collision warning system uses the camera and the radar together on Lariat models. Check to make sure nothing is blocking or interfering with the radar module in the opening to the condenser in the lower bumper.

Do you have a bull bar, aftermarket bumper, or lower grille insert?

I have no info on obtaining map updates.

First of all, when does this warning pop up? What are the conditions at the time? Weather, temp, etc. Do you have adaptive cruise control? I ask this last thing because one of the thinks collision warning uses is the ACC radar. The other is the forward facing camera, by the rear view mirror, that is also used for lane keeping and reading speed signs. Without ACC it only uses the camera.

Anything blocking the camera will disable collision warning. Ice, snow, dirt even a bug splatter. So make sure the upper windshield is kept clean. If you have ACC dirt in the radar or anything else in front of it, lights or even some lower grille inserts can do it. Also if it got knocked out of adjustment will do it. That would also disable ACC.

In short anything blocking either one or the other of these sensors will cause collision warning to disable. But, will usually also cause other systems to also disable if you use them.

For the map updates, you may have to buy them. I think you get 2 or 3 years free. If you haven't updated at all during the 'free' period, then you have to buy them. Go to the ford site, add your truck VIN and it will have a place to buy them.

You can also try to do a regular Sync update which can include the map files, but again, it won't 'update' the map files if it's out of that 'free' zone. A lot of people here us Cyan Labs sync updater.

ADDED: And YES, it's a load of crap to have to pay, but it is what it is. My opinion is that if you do not NEED a map update, then don't do it. Wait until you absolutely need to update, cause you have to pay for each new update. You could once buy a 5 year subscription, but not any more (I just looked) it's a 1 time fee of $110 for the download version. I don't drive any where new, so I haven't found a need to update, and besides, Waze or google maps will be up to date if I need to find something not in my nav.

My 2019 has only ever given the the 'dirty windshield' warning. It only takes a quick swipe of the wipers to remedy that. I've not seen a "blocked" warning.

I can't speak to the issue the OP mentioned but I'm content with the way the collision warning system operates - just a few days ago was going around 60 mph when the vehicle in front of me suddenly slowed and moved halfway into a turn lane and activated the collision warning - this warning has only happened 3 or 4 times that I can recall in 5 yrs of ownership, the system has been deactivated multiple times when driving in slush/snowy conditions - as expected. These systems are not totally fool proof as sometimes folks seem to forget.

I have had few issues with the front collision system, although 99% of the warnings I get are false. I got two map upgrades from a company called Alom dot com for $40 each. You have to provide your ESN (get it in the SYNC 3 onscreen system info) You get a thumb drive that takes some time to install, and it must be done while in contact with a Wi-Fi system. The first worked perfectly, but about a year later, I had a problem with the SYNC 3 system (black screen) that necessitated a new module. Meanwhile, I had ordered the new upgrade before the module was change. , which I was unable to install as the new module came with a new ESN number. I contacted Alom's customer service several times and their response each time was on the lines of "Too bad, so sad." I took it to dealer that installed the new module, they claimed I had the latest map update. Soooo. Buyer beware.

Like others have said, anything on the windshield, I believe top center where the sensors are. As for maps update, they are available here. Don't expect a lot, they are 18 months or so behind. :) https://syncnavigation.com/ford/home

You are better off using Android Auto or Apple Car Play for maps.
Google keeps the maps in AA up to date, I don't know about Apple.

I reached out to Ford and the update from the link does indeed come from Alom.
