Have you been off at collage with Andy ? Haven't seen you for a while...

Ha ha,
It was a self exposed time out. Forums or game apps I put it down or not visit for a month or longer just To take a break once in a while.

Hi Marc,

They sell imported tortoise...many have worms and other maladies... Buyer beware. Native Tortoise are protected and in Arizona and I think NV, they cannot be sold or purchased under law...

Best,
Phil
I have never seen a desert tortoise for sale here. There is a permit process and I believe your place can get inspected to make sure you can provide good care for the desert tortoise In order to be approved.

I have seen multi million $$ projects come to a halt because someone found a desert tortoise. Gotta contact state, gotta get the biologist on site to investigate, gotta check for more in the area, etc etc.

One solar farm project always had biologist on site everyday. You were required to look under car and tires and walk around your vehicle prior to driving. Don’t want to kill tortoise in shade scenario. The biologist would put 4” plastic tortoise in front of wheel. If you broke the plastic you instantly lost your job on the spot. No exceptions.

Phil, thanks for this. The wife and I are still, um, "young" enough to travel for vacations for weeks or months at a time, so any kind of pets are out of the question for the time being...

With best wishes, Marc

I don't mind the big decal on the box, for a company truck, but all the rest need to go. Also, I'd love to see the trailer he's pulling with that hitch set-up. :)
my travel trailer hitch is almost that high but that is a WDH for a lot of weight.

Hi Steve,

Way funny....Yesterday I took Tito on a walk around the RV park in a different area. There was some spotty ground cover, and Tito ate a few plants...Then I got to thinking....what are these plants and maybe poison for him... So today I asked the park owner and he immediately investigated.... It was bird seed that had taken root. So no problem for Tito and he liked eating it. So today I took him back over to dine on this ground cover.... Wow! what a upper. Tito started zipping around at full tilt and continued for some 6 hours...Zip here, Zip there... Amazing. He finally tuckered out and is asleep in the Motorhome...But what is this stuff????? RV park owner and I are going to have to figure out what this cast off bird seed is that grew into this sparse ground cover...

Best,
Phil
Phil, he's welcome to clean up under our bird feeder. All kinds of stuff grows for me to pull.

It is common for people here in Vegas to have desert tortoises at home. My boss has a couple in his back yard that he has had for years.

Even in the corporate office for NV Energy there is a resident named “Wattson”. Get it? Measurement of electricity, the Watt.
I understand watt you are saying! :like:

Honest question because I'm completely clueless on hitches (but I want to learn more cuz I really want to tow a travel trailer someday when I get up enough nerve to buy one), but what's wrong with his hitch setup?

Nothing is wrong per se, it just looks really high for any trailer I have towed.

The truck looks to have 4 inches of lift and bigger tires for more lift. My turck is similar set-up (3.5inches of lift & 33s) and I use a 7 inch drop receiver and 2 inch drop hitch ball (similar to his but upside down). His set up is over a foot higher than mine. Granter I do have a fairly low trailer.

As @Peragrin noted some trailers are set up higher though, so it's all in the individual design. Still, inverted hitch balls are rare, and more so on raised trucks.

Yes, that is what I thought you were gonna say. I looked at the picture again and I see what you mean. With the lift, bigger tires and a lack of a drop in the hitch, that trailer would have to have a tongue at 48" high to properly set on that hitch. Makes sense.

Maybe he's pulling a parade float or something.

Don't think that hitch ball is for towing more of a stopping lance in that configuration.

Bird food suppliers have been putting Cannabis seeds in bird food for decades

Can it be Tito likes that more than Tito Vodka!?! ?

Cannabis plant grows from man's wild bird seed mix

Could be either millet or milo (sorghum bicolor) both are common bird seed fillers that most birds kick to the ground. They grow like weeds in my garden up Idaho. All the birds and chipmunks kick them out of the feeders because they prefer the pumpkin seeds and sunflowers. Smaller birds will eat those off the ground. Chipmunks love the milo when the fresh seeds pop out of the plant. Only thing in the garden they fight over besides the canary seed blooms. I'm betting the plants he got into were the milo. The plant has a heavy sugar content and is used for sugar, ethanol, syrups, and a-lot of other uses. I spread a bunch of it this year over about an acre to see how it does without daily watering in the garden. The deer and elk up here love the stuff in the summer, I'm always catching them around the edges of the garden mowing the stuff down. They tend to leave the leaves and chomp down on the heavy stalks.

I was preparing the garden yesterday for winter and was pulling this stuff out. Made me think of this thread. Boy the chipmunks were pissed. Chittering at me the whole time. I had to refill the feeders with fresh sunflower and pumpkin seeds as a peace offering lest they dismember me in my sleep.

But the three of them shouldn't be too pissed at me. They sure got fat off me this year. One of them can't even make the 12" jump into the feeder anymore. It was hilarious yesterday watching him try and find a way up. He ended up just waiting below the others and picking at the scraps.
