So the bag of bolts I ordered from Amazon arrived yesterday. I gleefully went out and began screwing one in, tightening it with a screwdriver through the eye.

It broke.

How the heck do I get that bolt out now??

Seems like more than enough poking out for a good ol' pair of pliers or vice grips.

The plan was just to bungee a plastic milk crate there to put random groceries in, not to tie down a fridge or a motorcycle. So no, I still won't pony up the $$ for the OEM.

And no, I did not tap out the hole, unfortunately.

Live and learn hopefully someone else reads this and doesn't make the same mistake!

Example of why I would just pony up the $$ for the real tie down brackets. What if that broke while something was attached too it, then it flew out of the truck bed :(

Did you clean the bolt hole out with a tap first? You need to do that with the spray in liner, to get the liner out of the hole. You should not need much force to screw the tie down bolts in. (Your picture doesn't look like the hole was cleared out?)

I'll try but I was torquing that bad boy hard when she split off.

Bah, toss them in like this and you can carry more.

Of course, it if goes in Soupie's bed, it can only mean one thing!

Off to the dump!

Hmm, maybe that's why my daughter doesn't want to ride back there (which is still legal to do in New Hampshire). =)

I can confirm the holes for the bed hooks are M8 X 1.5 and the holes at the rear of the bed near the tailgate are M6 X 1. If the bed has spray-in bed liner, the holes must be reamed out.

Agree with EH, I noticed the lifeline on the palm of your hand, would you like a reading on that. I don 't know how long you will live but it tells me you are a strong mo fo busting that off and it tells me you drive a Ford Ranger

I still like mine. The black standoff under the chain is a 3D printed part, but any normal person could just use washers.

so I wonder if the end of threads in the bed and a long screwdriver were the cause of this snap lol.
