I hover around 16-17 these days. When I first fill up, I get 19-20, but it drops over the life of the tank. That's tuned or untuned, pretty consistent.

Obviously, my truck is far from stock and I pull 500-600 miles per tank (LRA). I actually think I will get a jump in mileage when I move up in tire size. I'm running 4.88 gears and my tires are a little small for that ratio. My RPM hover around 2500 at 80-85 mpg. Our speed limit is 75 up here, so... that's the speed of traffic. When I keep it around 65, I can pull low 20s, but... then I am that safety hazard on the highway.

I was checking out your truck.. Nice !

I've noticed a significant improvement in mpg since I updated my tune. I was at 10.6 mpg before. Now, after 2 tanks of gas, im averaging 14.8 mpg. The smoother shifting strategy made a huge difference. I need to take a highway cruise to see if it improved there too.

Well,,, I just ran some errands around town and now my avg. dropped to 13.7 mph. Everything around me is a light (or stop sign) every mile... no matter which direction you go. So I'm always accelerating to 55 mph. I cruise at 55 for 10 seconds. And then I brake for the next light. I always seem to accelerate faster than everyone else even though I'm not pushing hard. My truck accelerates with no effort at all.

So you live in the city hitting every light and you wonder why you can't hit 20 MPG?

It seems odd to me that so many tuned Rangers get in the 20's. Is that because y'all do tons of highway miles ?
Pretty much. For me I try to stay out of the city when I can. Doing such allows me to get the best results for MPG.

Fun fact, having a consistent speed with little interruption is the best way to get good MPG regardless of vehicle.

Now of course when you get above a certain speed or you are dealing with a massive head wind, then you can only do so much. That is something I have experienced with the Ranger and my Frontier.

I roll on 285-65xR18 General Grabber A/T's with 18 stop/starts in a typical work day (spaced at either ½ mile or 1 mile).

What i need is a daily driver so I can park this one in the garage (to keep the mileage/risk low).

A lighter tire would make a difference even in a different size. I would look at 265/70-18 instead and look at the Firestone Destination XT. Though it is an LT, it is lighter than the competition and has better handling characteristics. I have also had good luck with MPG for that tire.

I immediately thought of this scene.

Feast your eyes on this. My tire size is calibrated with my FPPP tuner, and trust the onboard mpg computer as much as one can

How can you trust it if you don't reset it? Asking for a friend

I have the Unleashed tune and only get 17 mpg in town. It's only 4 miles to work and 4 miles back. Lucille hardly gets warmed up by then. Now I do get 26-28 on long highway trips like when I have to go to my Seattle office. Towing my tent trailer I get 22 or so. Not bad for a 4WD.

That seems insane, wish I could do that. With the amount of red lights I get, I'm Lucky to get 16mpg in the city, driving it easy.

Without towing, I'm happy with 20mpg hwy. Stock Tremor used to be about 22mpg but leveled one inch but more importantly heavy 33" k03 did the truck no favors, lost 1-2mpg from 33" k02. I'm generally going 75-80mph too on hwy.

The Ford tune gave me a solid 1mpg gain. Think it's the better throttle response more so than the extra power.

I got 19.5 when it was stock on 87 octane. I drive fast and aggressive
S&B CAI
CVF hot & cold pipes
CVF Intercooler
Custom 91 tune from Revolution Auto

I drive the same way just a little faster and still get 19.5 I do not drive a lot. Only 50k miles on a 2020 I bought new. If I take a trip, I can get 22.5 if I do not sit in traffic jams.
