What I have a hard time believing is that if this were true why doesn't Ford do this before fixing/replacing the transmission? I don't recall anyone on here saying they had this done and it fixed the problem(s). I’m sure Ford would rather reset the adaptive learning than replace the transmission like they’ve had to do with members here.

Nor does it explain all the chewed up parts some of us have had. Along with the other internal workings that Ford said were damaged when they rebuilt/replaced many of ours.

While they admit being well versed in things on the internet, clearly they've spent no time on R5G.

Wonder what their take is on "fuel in oil"?

All of the TSB’s have had as the first step to reset the adaptive learning. They reset mine then rebuilt the valve body and reset again then replaced the valve body and reset yet again all to no avail. Ended up replacing the transmission.

But according to these guys that's all that's needed and the 10R80 is the Holy Grail of transmissions.

I have never used these guys, so no idea if they are blowing smoke or telling the truth. Their Google reviews are quite good, but their Yelp are just above average. I had to listen to the video twice, since I was half focused the first time I played it. One of the more interesting things he said about the adaptive learning it that it seems to take more than just resetting it. Sounds like you need to look at why it was out of wack in the first place. In the middle of the video, he talked about the dealer tech determining that the fluid level was good, resetting the adaptive learning and when the trans still shifted poorly assumed it was an internal issue and needed a rebuild/replacement. With all the problems Ford is having playing honest rates for warranty work, and no master dealer tech wanting to touch warranty work, I can totally see a tech rushing to diagnosis. Worse yet, the tech at the dealer is probably a junior tech.

So for me, if my Ranger trans started acting up, do I pay this guy $300-$400 for an evaluation, or drop it off at Sanderson Lincoln or Ford of North Scottsdale for warranty work. So far my experience with warranty issues is that my truck sits for a week or more before they even look at it, and then they tell me they cannot reproduce the issue.

That actually isn't a terrible video, but I think they're a bit naive. They don't mention anything about the valve bodies, and short of the CDF Drum, the valve body is where a lot of the problems start. Adaptives can only do so much when the valve body is worn or sticking.

They do mention the valve bodies at the 13:30 mark. He says they see everyone on the internet mention the valve bodies but he's never done one and he thinks it's not happening so you have to be careful what you read on the internet.

That's where they lost me because I remember you and others saying this have failed in several of them.

I see the Super Duty 10 speeds are having similar problems. Starting to sound like 8 was enough and 10 was a fubar decision to try and meet government standards.

If we all drove manuals any issues would be the drivers fault. Give us all double overdrive 7 speeds and we would be good. Wont be as fast but mpgs would be equal.
They wouldn't get stolen either. Most past the Boomer age can't drive a stick. lol

I would not count on dealerships doing much of anything right. They will replace a transmission under warranty because it the easiest thing to do..if it really just needs disassemby and repair. I believe FORD knows this and does not trust anyone taking apart these units.
Being told you need a 10K transmission and these guys fix it for< 1K would be a great move. Clearly these transmissions-like all- can fail badly, and if so will require replacement. To me- this shop (who I have used 30 years ago) and has excellent google reviews 4.7 stars with 600 reviews- I would most def. give them a shout. So glad there within 15 miles of me!

I've seen a couple AI generated videos that claim Ford has changed the software surreptitiously to address the shifting but it seemed to me it's to put off valve body problems and eventual failure. The CDF drum issue is pretty well documented and has been addressed in production.

The current authority on the 10R80 to me is Nate at Nexgen out in California.

I don't think the modern transmissions are going away, it's become up to us owners to 'fix' the flaws. At least it's a quantifiable expense.
