Well….I have been debating and researching this topic for weeks now.
After MUCH thought I ‘think’ that I’ll be purchasing an extended warranty for my 19 from Flood before this years price increase on Jan 5.
I bought this truck in Dec 19 and only have 14k on it and figure when the factory warranty expires I’ll have less than 25k. I’m just a bit concerned with the low miles that something will surface once the factory warranty expires ( I know, it’s a crap shoot but one repair could be $$$) Haven’t had any real issues other than a Malfunction Indicator Lamp - electrical concern with number 4 fuel injector - which cleared itself. After reading through the forum I know there appears to be potential issues with some components (like hvac) and this has influenced my decision.
My plan is to keep Maggie for at least 4 more years as I have no real complaints that push me into the 6g any time soon.
Going with the 6 year/60k ($50 deductible) is $745. To me, that seems like inexpensive insurance in the event ‘something’ goes bad…..I was debating the 7 year/75k for $1285 but that jump of over $500 for another year just seems like too much.
With all the electronics and such I guess peace of mind for me is worth it….

Alan, if you haven't already you can search for Ford dealers that sell the genuine extended warranty at discounter prices. i.e Flood, Zeigler etc.

I usually check them all, and buy from the one with the best price. These days I don't worry much about the mechanical stuff, but all of these expensive electronics are another story. Like you say, it's for my peace of mind.

Normally we don't get extended warranties on our vehicles, mostly Subies over the last 25 years.
Bought a new 2021 Ranger Lariat, loaded, but didn't get the extended at the time. It's a long term vehicle, and we started to think about problems occurring after the factory warranty expired.
Checked with my dealer who quoted me over 2 grand for a plan.
Contacted Flood who sold me the same plan for half as much....their remark was they only make about 50 bucks on selling a plan, while the dealer is making $1000 on it. Floods comment was they still make money cause they sell thousands a year, while the dealer may sell dozens.
Went with the 8 year, 100,000 mile, $100 deduct, ran $1195. With labor costs and parts costs skyrocketing, and sure to go up in the future, to me it's just cheap insurance.
If your auto insurance has a "glass replacement" add on you might want to check into it. Most will cover repairing a chip, but will not cover replacing the glass....found that out when wife's Subi needed a glass replacement. Had to eat almost $1000. Glass replacement with a $50 deductable for all our vehicles only added $60 to our yearly premium.

Which tier are you guys looking at? Ziegler has 4 levels of plans, premium care, extra care, base care, and what looks like power train care. Is there a better value to one of these?

6/60k only buys you another year and 10k on the power train, so only you can decide if that’s worth the cost. Personally, if I was going to invest in it, I would try to go longer.

My truck’s been perfect to date, but I‘ve decided to buy one for 5/100k, which is how long I keep vehicles on average. For my vehicle, that’s just over $1000. I usually don’t buy warranties, but it seems pretty easy to spend $1000 on a repair these days, especially on electrical and such that is only covered for 3/36k. So, the warranty seems like a reasonable cost to insure the risk.

I'm in the same boat Alan as I'm more then likely going to keep my Ranger longer than usual. I'm probably going to get an extended warranty myself because of all the electronics on these trucks now. Tracy @Tracy Bowman just went through this and didn't have an extended warranty (just over the 36K) and it cost here a couple grand out of pocket. It's just like any insurance you buy that you hope never to use it but you're sure glad you have it if you need it.

You just have to compare...what each covers, and cost.
I shot the wad and got the Premium. Cost difference between it and the lesser plans wasen't too much more. Figured if I'm gonna do it, to do it right.

Here's my thought. If you want the extended warranty that's totally cool I recommend going with the biggest warranty you can. Worst case scenario you don't use it at all because your truck doesn't have any problems. Best case scenario is you do use it because your truck had problems. That's my input

We went back & forth, then, since there had been absolutely no problems, figured we probably didn’t need it. Then 400 miles after warranty expired, the hydraulic control unit went out. $2200 parts & labor. Fortunately we were still in the timeframe to purchase the extended warranty. Since we’re keeping this Ranger forever?, we got the 8yr/125,000 premier plan. Worth it to me.

I've been looking too. The price of some of these repairs really gives me pause

I got the 100k extended bumper to bumper warranty at dealer cost ?. Perks to being a loyal customer, former employee and friends with the GM.

If you plan on keeping your truck long term, the extended warranty makes sense.
