Hey all,

Last week, I drove through a construction zone on the freeway. When I drove through a plum of dust, a warning popped up that the collision avoidance system was unavailable and then the engine started knocking and was under powered (like limp mode).

First I thought it might have been bad gas (just filled the truck), but the truck was operating normal after I shut it off and restarted it. The collision avoidance was also back to normal.

A week later, I drove through the same plum of dust and the same thing happened again.

No check engine light came on, just the amber wrench symbol illuminated when the collision avoidance was unavailable.

Any one have an idea of how I can diagnose this issue without paying $180 at the dealership for them to probably tell me that they cannot duplicate the problem?

Is there anyway to turn that system off and try driving through it again to test out?

Collision avoidance may be temporarily unavailable when driving through the dust cloud because the camera can't see

However the air filter part is strange. Make sure your piping is seated correctly, the air box is correctly aligned and clipped down. And check/change your air filter if needed

Just an idea based on what was said

So I replaced the the air filter after the first experience. Second time driving through the plum had a fresh air filter installed.

Agree with the others on here, it's usually ice or snow here that disables the collision avoidance system but I never lose power.

That’s what’s confusing me. I understand the collision avoidance system rely’s on the radar and camera, but the engine degradation is perplexing me.

I am no mechanic, but my simple monkey brain suspects an issue with a sensor, but wouldn’t a check engine light come on?

Out of curiosity what air filter are you using?

I would simply stop riding through that "Same plume of dust" . Try some different dust and see if it does the same ,lol.

Don’t drive thru the dust?

If you think it’s sensor related. Cover them with something and block the sensors. See if engine acts the same when sensors covered. My sensors always say unavailable when I drive thru the desert. Wipe them off. Restart vehicle and all warnings gone but I never got a change in Performance.
