Very cool! Ford knows how to build commercials, too! How long before there will be a "Ranger Lightning Live Reveal"? If they don't hurry up, I may have to upgrade to the 150 after all!

Time to clean remodel the garage?

Had to fix the last line for you. ?

The only problem with the F150 is they're so darn big now they don't fit in a normal garage anymore. I know a lot of people don't care about this but for me I need something that does. Especially here where the heat just bakes everything outside.

IIRC didn't they say there's a PHEV Ranger in the works? I would be they will eventually have a EV Ranger but the F150 is their money maker so all the money will be invested into that one first. Looks like they're headed in the right direction though.

Yep, the 150 is a tight fit in my garage. I had one as a loaner before I bought the Ranger and know that one just barely fits inside my "normal garage," on condition that I have to step outside of the garage door to get from one side of the garage to the other, whereas in the case of our present Ranger, I can move from side to side freely with the garage door closed! I will be watching the situation very closely, and will think long and hard about the PHEV Ranger when it comes or maybe at a Ranger Lightning if or when it follows (or the F150 Powerboost or Lightening)! I also like the idea of having a truck in the garage that can power the whole house for a few days if needed. Happily, the wife is on board with ICE, hybrid, or electric, whatever I decide going forward: "you can get any truck you want," she announced the other day, "as long as it is blue."

The f150 lightning looks super cool and honestly if my circumstances were different I would definitely consider one. I mean I need and I like to drive a lot, not just for sightseeing. I drive from the south west to NY twice a year. And I try to get there as fast as I can. I know with an electronic vehicle I can already make the trip if I strictly keep to interstates. But it would take a few days lol.

And battery technology. Tesla just introduced a new battery pack that will be more efficient, and the rumor is that it’ll be going into their Cyber Truck. It’s ugly as sin, and their quality control is undoubtedly worse than Ford’s, but they’re way ahead in battery technology and software. So honestly, I would opt for a Tesla.

but competition is good. It’ll be interesting to see where the industry is in about 10 years when I’m ready and comfortable to buy.

Advantages of the F150 Lightning
1. Qualifies for $7,500 tax credit
2. Up to 775lb of torque (F150 Raptor has 510lb)
3. Up to 563HP (F150 Raptor has 450hp)
4 Pro Power Onboard which has tons of plugins all around the truck
5. Home backup battery - for most people combining their vehicle and a home backup is pretty smart.
I see 1 big issue with this is batteries wear out with use. Most charge cycles means less life. So every time you run your house off your truck, you're reducing the mileage you will get from vehicle long term.
6. Mega Frunk - It can hold up to 400lbs and it'll be hilarious seeing people's reactions when you pop this open at store and stick groceries in the "engine compartment"

At least Ford is somewhat serious about vehicle electrification but I think they should have waited until they had better battery tech to release the F150 Lightning.
230 miles range on small battery is pathetic for a truck. In the cold this will be maybe 125 miles.
Towing in cold may leave you with 50-75 mile range, then it will take 10 hours to recharge at level 2 charger. (240v at 48amp home charger) Ford is offering optional 80amp that shortens this down to less than 8 hours.

A think a Ranger or light duty SUV would have been much better suited for going electric first as you expect less towing/hauling from a ranger vs f150.

I'm not understanding the pricing. If the XLT starts at $50k and it goes all the way to $90k for Platinum trim, and the powertrain is the same across all models (save for larger range battery option), are they really expecting people to pay an additional $40k just for a nicer interior and lighting? I guess I would have expected a bump in HP, range, etc. for the additional cost.

Before you folks go out and buy electric vehicles checkout the youtube video of the guy that drove a Mustang Mach E over the Rock Mts to LA. He's pro electric car but felt it had a way to conservative charging curve. Charging is a pain and it's most efficient to only charge to 80%. The plus side it does tell you where the charging stations are.
Holy smokes that looked painful, and that's with a very experienced EV guy. Can only imagine what a novice experience would look like. Seems renting a car would be the better option. Just too many stops.

The whole "power your house for three days" is a gimmick in my opinion. I have a 14kw Powerwall and I don't see it running my house for three solid days. It'll be interesting to see what the real starting price is once they hit the showrooms. Any idea what the truck weighs? Hadn't seen a stat on it.

Yeah, I bought a ranger thinking is was the small size truck. I knew it was bigger than before, but seeing some of the old tacos compared to the ranger is like, wow, they are tiny. I was beside a tundra at a stop light today and it seems a bit smaller than my ranger, or it seemed like it. I had a pre-taco toyota truck and the tundra was the 'full size' equivalent, or I thought. The f-150 is just HUGE compared to what it once was. I guess the ranger is the size of the old f-150s.

1 powerwall is around 14kWh.
The truck is rumored to have 150-180 kWh in the long range.

Using 30kwh/day average that "should" last 3 days.
