It is true that there is no blocking spline. The down side is I just tried to re spline my drive shaft and it did not work...... It did not want to change.....

You mean you tried to reindex the slip yoke splines?

That is correct, I work at a Ford dealer in Colorado(and at work now). I tried to re index it and it would not let me re index it for some reason. I saw no blockers so it should have worked. Perhaps it just wants to be a PITA

It may be a subtle difference in spline spacing or one spine is thicker to prevent "misindexing". Thanks so much for taking the time to help with this investigation! Wonder if 180° index might slide together. It is times like this I wish I was inside the company as the answers are there, but who and where, being on the outside for some 18 years, escapes me. :frown:

It may be a subtle difference in spline spacing or one spine is thicker to prevent "misindexing". Thanks so much for taking the time to help with this investigation! Wonder if 180° index might slide together. It is times like this I wish I was inside the company as the answers are there, but who and where, being on the outside for some 18 years, escapes me. :frown:

You are most likely correct on that. With my experience with the new Ranger(my first Ranger as well) I am impressed overall. I came out of a Nissan Frontier and got the improvements I was looking for. The only 2 things I dont like(and I think most will agree) is the oil filter location and lack of storage under the rear seats. Other than that I love it and minor things like the driveshaft are going to happen in the first year or two of a new model vehicle regardless of manufacturer.

I work at a Ford Dealer as well. This picture from rough country is what I have seen done for lifted Rangers.

Edit: now that I think about it there may be 4 blocking splines only allowing movement in 90 degree increments. I never looked close enough.

I would agree about the storage under the rear seat (and no 60/40 split), but I guess I might be in the minority - I actually LIKE the location of the oil filer - it is easy to get to - I'd rather have it there than have to be on my back and have oil drip all over my hand (or arm). The location along with the drip tray was well engineered, IMO.

Interesting. Thanks for posting this. I found the full PDF for this and upon closer inspection it does look like the shaft is all lined up after clocking it by 90.

If you look at Pg 20 in the PDF Drivesfaft clocking. You can also get a band clamp tool off Amazon for about $27 to tighten the front clamp back down. So this may be something worth looking into doing if it fixes the vibration/driveshaft phasing issue.

The funny thing about these instructions is it makes the center an rear u-joint out from each other by 90°. I'm no expert but i can say that will just make the vibration worse.

It's definitely a funky design but the one lifted one I've driven didn't shake and his driveline was clocked in this way. If I see it again I'll measure working angles, take pictures and see what's going on.

Soooooo.......... I orderex a new driveshaft for my truck and i took a good look at it this morning since it just got here. I'll let you guys look and see what you think........... I'm sure i know what the response will be......

Judging from the pictures, it seems the U-joints are still clocked slightly off. They certainly went through balancing it based on all of the weights. Guess thats just how these get manufactured.

I'd love to hear why also...out of phase and tattooed with weights creating a counter balance condition.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if they outsourced the shaft assembly to an overseas company who has little to no understanding of proper phasing/balance techniques or procedures.

I have the inclining to take these pictures and the videos of the shaft bouncing around to a local drive shaft specialist to see what they say about it. I mean it's almost worth paying them to run a diagnostic on it to see what they find.
