Same. I've had a few trucks with this "feature" never used it. Especially when most phone plans nowadays come with free hotspot. I have unlimited hotspot with my T-Mobile plan.
We have good coverage and service with T-Mobile. No need to pay extra.

I have the $200 a year plan too. My wife has an ATT 5 gig plan, and I have a Verizon 15 gig plan for phones. We travel a lot, and bought the Ranger as our travel tow rig. It’s nice to be able to use the larger iPad screen when checking out routes and places. It also sometimes gets signal when the phones won’t. If we didn’t travel 6 months a year, I wouldn’t do it, but it’s been helpful.
Check out TMobile Magenta 55 plus plan

T Mobile has exactly 0 coverage where I live. ATT / Verizon work good.

My grandkids use it with their iPads. Helps pass the time on trips, especially when they use headphones. I get a 'second vehicle discount' as I have my Chrysler on the same plan.

I have it enabled for the Ranger as well as our other vehicle. There are two reasons I can see having it.
- Using the vehicle hotspot instead of a phone hotspot. This is nice since many plans penalize hotspot data and it will also work the phone pretty hard. For use enabling kids tablets is a huge benefit.
- I have found that it gets better reception than the phone in certain areas even if the service isn't as fast.

If tese don't apply to you it definitely doesn't make any sense.

Have unlimited text/talk with 1gb shared data plan on phones through cable company (uses Verizon) at $14 a month each. Cable company HOT SPOTS are everywhere so I have the unlimited plan for the Ranger. Works well and at $51 for everything with tax.. not bad

Add another no to the list. I'm on Firstnet (ATT First Responder Plan) and for $55 I'm unlimited everything including tethering. So when we leave on a trip my phone is designated hotspot most all of the time.

Looking back I probably should have made this a poll - now fixed.

I agree with the kids use - all that streaming would make your phone melt and charging might not be able to keep up.
My "kid" is now going on 22, but I recall the long drives with the VHS (yes VHS) video system. It was GOLD. Prior to video starting LOTS OF NOISE, after video started (using head phones) Golden silence or the radio.
Guys and Gals (probably done need to mention the Gals THEY ALREADY KNOW) they are young only once and on some level you cant wait for them to grow up and get out of the house, and then you realize oh crap!
Sorry I digress!

Might be time to head to the Friday drinking thread to cry in my drink. Crap its not Friday!

I use it. My wife and I have a $7.00 a month Tracfones with minimal 4g but no taxes or surcharges. $15 a month for unlimited 4g with no taxes or surcharges is a deal for us. Plus you can set up a tablet with movies for the grandkids. Also have An Amazon dot hooked to it so I can just drop in at home without using the phone. Plug it in the outlet and ass doesn't shut down.
FTW! Movies for the grand kids is brilliant! =)

Yes they have the free ATT Ride app that includes kids movies in the plan. We had Verizon phones previously where the taxes and surcharges on the plans were more then our total cost now. We also have it in my wife's Subaru and the tablets with movies will work in both vehicles. So does my spectrum TV app and Amazon prime videos. Never had a connection or speed problem.

Looks like we need to do this in my wife's new car for our grandson! Thanks for the very clever idea (this kind of stuff is not in my wheelhouse!). =)
