Dealing with frame rust

Been driving the Ranger like no one’s business and it’s been great to me.

Just noticed some small signs of rust on the frame around the inside of the wheel wells. Specifically on the rear wheel well on the frame where the circle weld is.
Is this bad?
Should i do anything?

Comparing this to my Audi and those things leak oil every once in a while effectively rust proofing the underside. Lol.

I think I know what/where you are talking about.... I had some surface rust near that circle weld in rear wheel wells. I cant remember the name of the can of rust eater stuff, but I sprayed it on and let it dry and then where the surface rust was it turned to what looked like a white powder (followed directions), lightly wire brushed off then hit the area with Rustoleum flat black spray paint.

I've been the undercoating game on & off for 20 years. Find someone in your area that undercoats with either Fluid Film, Wool Wax or Surface Shield and keep it sprayed yearly. I wouldn't worry about mild surface rust, these products will stop it in it's tracks and keep it from spreading.
In the salt belt, vehicle owners should undercoat they day they drive it off the lot. It'll never be as rust free as it that day.

I'm thinking of New Hampshire oil. They have Boss Wax, which I think is a bit less oily than the regular stuff and it's available in clear—they claim it's dry to the touch ...

I have some form of lanolin on the truck when I bought it—the stoopid finance guy went on and on about how awesome his Tesla was and I caved because I wanted out of that. =(

The NH Oil headquarters is only 20 minutes from me. I don't relish the thought of messy oil when I crawl under Soupie, but I do like that they spray inside the doors, tailgate, and hood. They also have some peppermint they add to help with mice (although my own experiments with peppermint, cinnamon, and cayenne are mixed at best).

I had an NH Oil shop in my area treat my truck with their wax and oil service a couple years ago. The undercarriage got the wax and body cavities got the oil. They touch the truck up every year for $20, a good deal IMO.
So far the truck is rust-free, but we're early in the game.

The only major rust I have is the cheap after market running board mounts. I haven't used it yet, but I bought a can of Gorilla Tough Undercoating spray. Makers of Gorilla Glue I guess. The running board mounts take a lot of abuse from road debris, and this is supposed to be durable, so I hope it lasts longer than Rustoleum I have been using. When under there, I will hit any other spots that look rusty.

I don't know what Gorilla is like, but if it's rubberized at all, don't use it. Shouldn't even really use spray paint it does the same thing., traps moisture......

I'll keep that in mind, but it should be fine on the running board mounts.
