Any recommendations for where to tap a dash cam power? It’s has Ground, Hot and Accessory. I have wired few dashcams in few cars from ‘90 ~ late 2010s (Volvo, Toyota, BMW, Nissan etc.) before but this is the first time on a vehicle with auto-stop/start feature. Currently it has harness with OBD adapter for Thinkware U1000 and IGN-3F module for compatible with auto-stop/start. I want to switch to a different dashcam that came with 3-pole hardware kit but it doesn’t specify how this new cam deals with ASS function of the truck. Do I still need the latch ignition module (IGN-3F) or just simply tap into a switched ignition fuse for the accessory (ACC)? Recommendations please.

I tapped mine with fuse taps in the fuse box. Easy to come down the A pillar right to the box, then test to find a hot and acc.

Which fuses did you tap into and how does it behave when the auto-stop/start kicks in at, say, stop during traffic signals?

I have a Thinkware 1000 and its wired into the mirror cluster with an adapter and powered on when truck starts.

I paid to have it installed but this was how it was explained to me. It does not interfere with autostop. Its an excellent camera btw. Just be aware if you activate all the options it can put allot of draw on the battery.

Be careful which fuse you tap into. I initially tapped into a fuse that was always on and had a dead battery a couple of days later. I think I eventually tapped into fuse 35.

The attached info was very helpful. I don't remember where I got it (this forum?), but I can't find it now.

I tapped #29 on September 21st, 2023 and have had no battery issues. My dashcam turns itself off and doesn't have a true sentinel mode. If you hit the truck hard, or slam a door or tailgate, the dashcam comes on. But it takes 6 seconds and that's pretty useless.

It has a very small battery so I don't think it's draining much, if anything. I suppose if Bigfoot was shaking Soupie all night long, the little dashcam battery would need charging, but that drain must b miniscule and I haven't seen Bigfoot since the summer ...

I routinely put Soupie on a battery tender, so that helps too. I also carry a battery jumper so I'm not worried about a dead battery ...

last summer in Portsmouth and lots of Jack Links ...

I‘m not making any denials but I may or may not have had a truck like that…

I would love (LOVE) having that Ranger! =)

Is that the one with the little jump seats that sit sideways and face the middle?

The very same. I loved that truck - 2001, 5-spd manual, 4.0L V6, Off Road package - traded it in on my 5g, which I also love.

Found and ordered this on Amazon. It arrives in a couple days. I'm hoping it works well so I don't have to go across the headliner and down the A-

Retired, work is a four letter word.
I taped into the power in the mirror with pin taps into the plugs. Easy, close, and powers on with the truck, uses very little power. If it is 5vdc like mine use a mini 2 amp step down circuit.
