I had an 05 Dakota 4dr Lamerie 4WD V8 that i loved, got about the same mileage as the tremor and I ran the hell out of it loaded to the bumpstops or towing the boat. I felt they were the only true mid size truck. I would like to see a new version, I would be in...

I had 2005 Dakota SCAB I bought brand new. Base model 2wd with V6 and 5 spd manual. Good little truck even though the rear axle broke at only 12,000 miles. even had manual windows ?

I miss the days when you could work on your own damn truck without being a computer nerd.

It was a decent mid size truck back in the day and I had a few friends that owned them and all loved them. I'll be interested to see the new Dakota and what price point it comes out as and I think competition is great for this mod size market. It just makes all the others up their game to keep that slice pf pie in fear of losing out to its competition. By that rendering it is nice looking and personally I think it's better looking than the new 6G. Can't wait to see the final product.

I hope they make it really interesting and throw a Hemi in it for an option! ?
The only opportunity I ever had to drive a Dakota was around 2007. My truck was in service, and rented a Dodge Dakota. That had to be the "clunkiest" vehicle I ever drove. But to be fair... it was a rental.

My last truck before the Ranger was an 08 Dakota Crew Cab 4wd with the 4.7. That truck was a beast. If finally blew an engine at 270,000 miles. It towed constantly, and while it was maintained and cared for top notch it did stuff it was never designed or intended to do lol. Over 12 years it needed a water pump and ball joints. No other repairs. If they had still made them in 2020 I would have bought another one.

Mine was pretty good as well. The front driveshaft was shot, and being poor I just pulled it off to avoid hearing the noises.

Then one day while idling it(was around -20 degrees), the internal transmission cooling lines busted open without me noticing...

Had ATF and coolant mixed together, pissing all over the ground. That was all she wrote. Limped it to a dealership and just took the loss at trading it in for the F150 I ended up with.

I try not to base my opinions on rentals because most are heavily abused. I had a new Charger that was a rattle trap and the brakes were terrible and it only had 6,500 miles on it. I know I'm not the easiest on them when I rent one and can only imagine what some do to them.

Yeah, I've been troubled my what seems to be low end knocking they fades in then goes away. Some say normal, others say its rod knock. Have no time to take it in so who knows. Thats what the warranty is for though.

Other than that mystery I love it. Vast improvement over the ranger I had.
No real complaints other than nick picking bs.

Excellent! Glad to hear it. I hated, and still haven’t forgiven, Nissan for failing to cover anything post warranty on my 2006 Frontier NISMO. And there was a LOT they could have helped out with. In spite of my feelings for Nissan, I loved that truck. Constant repairs and all. Loved the truck.

And now back to our regularly scheduled thread.

I had a 2003 Dakota, which I traded in on the current Ranger. It was a great truck for its era, but the Ranger is a far better truck for me now. It’s a fun truck to drive.

Wow. I had a red Dakota too. The transmission cracked over the top from the ears that mated to the engine. I was on the highway and it made things a little interesting. Never had another MOPAR anything. Never will again. That gussied up Chinese built pretend truck can stay in South America. No interest. Still love my truck. No regrets and will drive it til the wheels fall off.

Alright folks, I’m one tall Dos Equis Amber deep at an El Toro Mexican (TexMex) restaurant and I’ve had enough of your weak dreams.

join me on a journey into my dreams.

Stellantis management are visited by the ghosts of Dodge Brothers past and informed that if they f*ck this up, their next ten generations will be cursed. Out of fear and superstition they decide to release a Dakota TRX equipped with a 5.7L HEMI of yore. It sells out.

seeing the success and always one to chase trends and steal customer data, Bloody Mary Barra orders the Colorado and Canyon be equipped with 5.3L V8 hybrid electric engines that commit 3 identity theft crimes per mile, and the lifters fail at 6,000 miles. Warranty coverage is denied because the truck is equipped with AI that smartly blames the owner for the failures. The truck sells out because there are suckers everywhere. Mary Barra is forced to resign with her golden parachute, because justice is fleeting.

In a panic, Toyota sees the success and tries to release a TRD Tune for the Taco Pro, but charges owners $7000 for the pleasure. It doesn’t work and is a sales failure. To adapt and overcome, Toyota realizes they can’t placate the masses with cheap tricks and employs the services of the 2UR-GSE 5.0L V8, previously of Lexus and Yamaha design, to thrill the world. It sells out, and the Taco dominates its own Tundra brethren. Turns out a tuning fork was all they needed.

Honda, having just acquired Nissan, refuses to be outdone and launches a Honda Frontier Pro-HPD equipped with the 5.6L V8 of legend. It comes in one color: Titans Revenge. Women everywhere are impregnated at the sight of it. It sells out.

Subaru, feeling immense pressure for having lost its rally racing soul announces the revival of the Baja. While unexciting and safe as always, Subaru shocks everyone with the Baja STi equipped with a twin turbo boxer 6. The Baja is perfect in every way except for banjo bolts, and faulty turbos. Owners call it character. It doesn’t sell out but is instead a niche classic that dominates at the WRC.

But they are all of them deceived. For another truck is forged. Deep within the depths of Detroit, Jim Farley orders the design of a midsize truck into which he pours his cruelty, malice, and will to dominate all trucks. The Ford Ranger GT350. Summoned from the depths Farley calls for dark magic and the voodoo engine answers the call. On board breathes the life force that is Ford’s 5.2L V8 killtrocity. The stock truck wins the Baja 500. World peace is established out of respect. Every ranger5g active user is gifted one out of respect. The truck sells poorly because dealer $200,000 mark ups. Ford does nothing about it.
