So, I poked around a little too, and all I found was this door (or in your link, the midbox) was mainly on fleet vehicles? In the concept pictures for the chevy they look like they are to access the bed.

I guess it would depend on the cost, but I'd be at least interested to see it. Though that doesn't convert to demand for such a thing :)
Not even close to the same as the chevy. These are storage boxes not door access to the bed.
It was offered on the first gen Colorado too. I knew a few satellite contractors that used them. With or without the drawers the section behind the door, front part of the bed, is separated from the rear. Think of installing a low pro toolbox that opens via the beds on the sides.

Niche for sure. But could work on a grocery getter truck car.

And executives at both Ford AND Chevy should be fired for not calling these El Caminos and Rancheros.

The ugliest, coolest car/truck/thing I ever wanted when I was a kid.

@Trigganometry that thing looks like a marital aid laying on its side!
There was a thriller movie, called The Island I think where this guy had one of those and it was considered a classic (movie was in the future) huge LOL on that one.

I guess in the most literal sense of the word "classic" it could be considered one in the future. But not A classic ?.

My dad had a Corvair Greenbriar p/u with the bed door. What a POS. One thing for sure, you'd be the 1st one at the scene of the accident.

Reminds me of the Chevy SSR... one of the ugliest vehicles I've been alive to see produced.
Yes that was ugly too! I think you forgot about this one which has my vote for the ugliest vehicle. ?

A worthy submission. That's why I qualified my statement and limited it to only those cars produced during my lifetime. HAHA!

The Pacer had a style and grace all its own. You want lonely-lookin' as the south end of a coyote runnin' north?

I love the look of that Scarab! Quite unique. The Aztek? Not so much....

Its funny - when I got to car shows, I find myself oddly attracted to oddballs like this. I think the pacer was a hideous vehicle but I think it is really cool to see - because you don't see many of them. Same with Pintos, mavericks, etc. I like stuff that is unusual and uncommon even if it i ugly.

That got me searching and apparently it's a common mod to the Pacer.

IMHO it looks a WHOLE lot better than the standard car.

If they would just change the B pillar a bit...

Also found this, less successful IMO, modded Pacer.

I think they were trying to emulate the Jalpa.
