Well it's certainly ugly to be a Chevrolet truck. It's not GMC ugly, but close. :)

It failed on the f150, hard to believe it will be a big hit on something else.
Oh yeah? Never knew about that. Had my Toyota for 25 years, so I was out of the truck market. Though, F150 was never in my radar anyway.

Curious when the F150 had a side door into the bed? I've bought one every 3 years since '97 and never remember them having this. Only thing I rememberer was the access door in the regular cab so you could get behind the seats easier.

Revisiting this image, it is obvious that this is an oldie since it was done before GM decided that round wheels need square wheelwells.

So, I poked around a little too, and all I found was this door (or in your link, the midbox) was mainly on fleet vehicles?
Yes. I'm sure if they sold like hotcakes ford would have made it available on more trims, but it didn't. If you can't make money on it with an f150 that already has 600 different options, it's hard to see how the numbers work on a lower volume vehicle.

In the concept pictures for the chevy they look like they are to access the bed.
most concepts never meet the light of day. unibody construction seems to be the way small trucks will go, and the idea of cutting the sides of the box so there's no structure in the back half of the vehicle above the bottom of the frame seems like a terrible idea, but I guess dumber things have been made.

I guess it would depend on the cost, but I'd be at least interested to see it. Though that doesn't convert to demand for such a thing :)
yeah, there was a lot of "that's cool" interest in the mid box, but at the end of the day most people wanted the flexibility of being able to use the whole bed, and without the box the doors seem superfluous--especially on a low sided truck that a child could reach into. I'd see a swinging tailgate being more useful.

What a dumb name. They should have gone back to the s10 nameplate.

I’m sure it will be absolutely hideous like everything GM makes. I can’t understand how one company can have such universally detestable design language but my god they put out some ugly vehicles!

I grew up in a GM household but now we are all Ford and Toyota.
