Does anyone know symptoms of an overfilled transmission?
When I had mine, I had a lumpy 3-4 shift when cold and a weird sound with acceleration that my dealer didnt have an explanation for.
Shifted normally otherwise.

I was showing 2 on the dipstick when cold.

Was the truck running?? The truck needs to be running while checking the level, or it will show high do to drain down.

Well, I got the aluminum cap off the trans fill no problem. I expected it to be tighter than it was. Cold check this am and the level didnt even touch the dipstick.
Added 1/2 quart thru the fill hole with a 10ml syringe. Brought the level up to 2 notches short of #6. Added another 10oz and brought the level up to 2 notches below #5. Added another 2oz and it set the level right at the #5 setting on the stick.
All total it took 28oz put in. Put everything back together and took er on a test drive.
I had smooth shifting before and it might be a bit smoother after. I did notice on hills it used to downshift from 10th to 9th. After the fillI drove those same hills and it stayed locked in 10th gear. All was smooth even with downshifting when slowing down to a stop.

When fluid stars coming out the breather on top when the transmission is hot and worked hard, you know it's overfilled. When it stops, you know the level is now OK.

Bu seriously I would buy a good aftermarket dipstick. This "sealed for life" BS is just that -BS

No, it was off.
I had been out driving for awhile, let it cool down enough that I didnt burn myself getting my hand in there.
because I live alone, I didnt feel comfortable crawling around under a running truck.

its not worth it. if your anywhere near time for a fluid and change just have them do it at the time. safer easier. even with the truck cold its still a pain in the rear

OK, I understand now how to check the fluid level. If it needs, where do you add fluid? Through the dipstick hole or someplace else?

I made one for my old F150 with -12 braided hose, it worked okay, still kinda a pain, but I would prefer a rigid one though, but it would have to have soft joint on the trans, either a O-ring slip fit or a short hose section, maybe even a Wiggins type clamp. I would think a threaded hard tube would be prone to cracking on a buzzy 4 cyl.

Does anybody know the size and pitch of the plug threads in the transmission case?
