Is there a recommendation for esp?
Factory one would probably be your best bet. The after market ones usually decline any and all repairs due to “corrosion, pre-existing conditions, or wear and tear”.

Like aftermarket warranty + alternator goes out. “The brushes wore out too bad we can’t cover it”

Factory warranty + alternator goes out = “Looks like it’s only putting out 10V instead of 14V you’re covered”.

Thanks for all the input, trying to gather some info as the dealer hasn’t given me much to work with

1- How do you find the build date? My door jamb sticker says 8/22

2- How to tell if fully rebuilt? Last invoice shows seals, bolts, gaskets, etc. but not sure if it was a full rebuild or just a valve body. The service advisor says I have “revised parts” from last time.

3- How long to expect the truck being out of service? Some on Reddit have been out of the truck for weeks if not a month +

thank you all!

There are 2 important dates

Blend and Build

Blend = The date it was on the assembly line - being blended together with parts
Build = The date it finished the line

The Blend Date is on the - Window Sticker
So, to be clear - My Blend Date - Shows 8/16/22
However - all Ford docs in - Oasis (Fords System) show 8/17/22 as the Build Date
So, I am using 8/16/22 as my reference date due to the fact that it is unknown if the transmission was installed on 8/16 or 8/17.

Example for Bronco - Blend Date Location

1726255119100-j9.webp

Now Fords System shows - Build Date, this can be the same day or shortly after, as with mine - it's the next day - so possibly a 3rd shift finished truck

For a reference when I was curious about the - Ford Manuals, I tried the 72-Hour subscription, when you enter the VIN# through that site. You can see some detailed info; this is linked to Fords Oasis system - This is where I see 8/17/22 as my official build date.
As well as some other info
8/17/22 - Build Date
8/20/22 - Release Date (I think this is when it moved to the Rail Yard)
8/23/22 - Warranty Start Date (Being this was -Retail Order) - I think this was the date it left the Rail Yard.

I can confirm that my truck was dropped at the dealer 8/30/22 and was ready for delivery (I can pick it up) all loan paperwork etc is signed on 9/7/22.

From the Bronco Forum - Interesting Info

Just ask them to email you a copy of the repair order. Post a copy here and we can try to decipher it for you

Also here is the most worn tire (right rear) which is factory original and still has a ton of tread left. So this truck has not been worked hard but it has been used for some towing and hauling.

If I could ask a favor, what is the tire pressure recommendation on your door jam with the 265/70r17 tires? Thanks in advance. Sorry for the hijack.

Chuck, they should be the same as mine (he has a Tremor) at 39 psi cold.

Thanks, Dave. I changed from the original AS tires to the K02s and want the proper inflation number. My sticker shows 30 psi.

I have BFG KO2s, I believe the recommended pressure range for the KO2 on pavement is between 35-40, I’ve been running them at 37 with good results.

Finally did some digging and found that my blend date is 7/22/22 but build date is sometime in August 2022. The window sticker unfortunately was not kept in a safe place and adhesives from other truck PDI items ruined the sheet, so all I can confirm is August something 2022 was the final build date.

With regards to the transmission repair, I've had it in a few times for this work, but didn't get a detailed printout every time. Attached is my initial diagnosis (with MPH deleted, nobody needs to know how fast I go on a 2-lane road) and it was back one more time for the transmission overhaul. IIRC they replaced gaskets, bolts, retainers, and seals but I don't know if the CDF was replaced during that time. I'll check with the dealership when they are open to see what I can find.

Is there something that can be done to prolong the life of the CDF drum moving forward? Can't seem to find a transmission temp gauge on the dash, and only knew it was overheating when it shifted hard and threw fluid out the vent at the top of the unit. That and not being able to find the right gear were the dead giveaways.

Guess I'll have to wait for my truck to be serviced, the dealers are all backed up and loaners are rare so it's a waiting game for now.

If your blend date is in July, seems like you have a transmission from before the revised CDF drum assembly started being used in the ranger (8/16/22 and later). This sucks but at least this isn't an instance of the redesigned CDF drum doing exactly what it was redesigned to not do. (yet? hopefully never? wishful thinking? probably)

As far as preventing the CDF drum from slipping, theories have been passed around here but there is no real definitive answer (seems pretty random). Seems to me like when the 10r80 CDF bushing starts migrating the transmission is locked in a death spiral to complete failure, and will need to be rebuild or replaced.

Looks like just a valve body clean up only on this repair. If you went back after this they may have replaced the valve body. That’s what happened with my truck. I ended up having issues after that and they replaced the transmission. Mine is a 03/22 build.

So is there a software update that allows us to see info such as trans temp, coolant temp (in degrees), and things like oil pressure?

The stock gauges look like idiot gauges (coolant temp never moves, even when towing up a steep grade in 100F weather) whereas other trucks would fluctuate (198-230F).

And I’ve already changed the fluid in this thing twice (once myself), the ones who are saying 30K fluid changes will help prevent this might be right, but on mine it didn’t seem to matter.

Fluid changes have nothing to do with the CDF bushing moving. It’s a design flaw that has been corrected with the updated CDF drum. Get an OBD reader and download an app like Torque Pro to be able to read all the temps that you want to. I tow a 6000 lb trailer with mine and the dash gauge will fluctuate slightly in relation to temperatures that I read on my app.

We are finally at the point where I will post my question and my answer.

Q. Is there ever a post from @airline tech that I don't enjoy and/or learn from?

A. Nope. Never. Always fantastic.

There are a number of members whose posts are top-notch and AirlineTech is among them. I'm a member of a number of Ford forums and this Ranger5G forum is at the top of the list. All due to its excellent members.

Thank you. All of you!
+1
Airline tech is the man. Period.
