Did I hit my throttle while braking? I've tried to replicate it and can't. I also tried a search here after hitting up google and didn't find anything Ranger specific. I was almost at a stop and it felt like someone hit the brakes that didn't know what they were doing; hard brake, slightly release, then jerk to a stop. That message appeared on the panel "Brake Applied, Power Reduced". I don't think I was on the throttle.. but .. big feet and newish truck so who knows. I tried on the way back from dinner to hit the throttle while braking and that message didn't show back up. Thoughts or know what is the actual trigger for that warning (or link to the thread I missed searching)?

It sounds like the cross traffic sensors went off and applied the brakes. Was anyone turning right in front of you and did any dash red warning lights or beeping going off?

No red dash warning/beeping that I have seen from the crash imminent spaz out. The message was in white/white box around it. There was a pedestrian standing there waiting to cross, but they were way off to my left and nowhere near walking out in front of me.

It is possible that you could have hit both by accident. Nissan was the first to reduce power output when the brake switch sends signal to the PCM. It is possible other manufacturers follow this as well

I think he answered his own question.

I wouldn't have asked if anyone knows what actually triggers it if I could get it to do it again. Trying to do it by hitting both didn't bring it back up. Maybe specific circumstances if no one else has a guess? Drove around for a bit and it didn't return even after trying to provoke it.

What triggers it is 2 input signals into the pcm at the same time. One stop signal, and one throttle position signal. The pcm can't have both. Just one or the other.
If it does, then fuel ⛽ is cut to the injection.

yep. two at a time and truck says no. ive had that happen a few times. when i get tailgaters on the interstate and dont wanna slow down to piss them off i very slightly touch the brake pedal so the brake lights will come on in an effort to show them to back off. i get the power reduced message each time. too bad it never says power added, that would be more satisfying

Patrick, it doesn't take much pressure on the brake pedal to set that aggravating thing off in mine. I was taught years ago in defensive driving courses to brake with my left foot. Now, it's a habit I can't break. I have to conciously remember to keep my big ol' dumb left foot away from the pedal everytime I acclerate from a turn, or I'll get that warning.

So what you're saying is we cannot Brake Torque these trucks? (hold the brake and floor it to burn up the back tires)

Left foot on the brake is not defense, it's paranoia . Also, I've seen way too many people doing that and not realizing they are activating the brake lights, so now that communication to other drivers is worthless. Left foot is for the clutch. If racing at the track... left foot braking is ok.

Speed signal also comes into play.

Left foot braking doesn’t play well with modern vehicles.

That is what threw me off and why I made the post. When it happened I figure I hit the gas, but then I could brake torque and apply brakes with the gas. I wonder if it's an "after X value do this". Aka it triggers after a certain amount of pressure/angle on one or both sensors. So you can do it some but not much. I didn't go out and floor it with the brakes on. Don't want to break the thing figuring out the limits of two pedals that should 99.9% of the time not be used at the same time .... But not 100% because ..... race truck.
