For what it's worth, it wasn't that bad...man id love to put this on my truck (when it shows up) but not so sure i want to cut holes into my truck again haha i cut a lot on my tacoma so not sure i want to do it with this one...
@Mishimoto trying one more time.@Mishimoto just curious.. if one wanted to purchase just the plumping, but not the snorkel, any chance of that happening? I've been toying with testing the idea of converting the factory fender vent into an actual intake point.
This would save me a lot of time on redneck engineering a bunch of pipe myself.
ya i know ive just been through it before with the tacoma lol fender cut, holes in the pillar, cab mount chop, fender cut, holes in the frame for skids and sliders, bed sides cut for hc rear bumper, front bar cut out to fit winch, pinch weld smashed to fit 34s holes in the bed for bed brace, holes drilled in the cabin for random things for accessories.... just loads and loads of cutting so just unsure if i want to start out on a brand new truck yet hahaFor what it's worth, it wasn't that bad...
cool thing with the mishimoto snorkel is that you don't really have to drill/cut any holes on the outside of your truck.ya i know ive just been through it before with the tacoma lol fender cut, holes in the pillar, cab mount chop, fender cut, holes in the frame for skids and sliders, bed sides cut for hc rear bumper, front bar cut out to fit winch, pinch weld smashed to fit 34s holes in the bed for bed brace, holes drilled in the cabin for random things for accessories.... just loads and loads of cutting so just unsure if i want to start out on a brand new truck yet haha
Ya that’s the part I like only part I dislike is the pillar mountcool thing with the mishimoto snorkel is that you don't really have to drill/cut any holes on the outside of your truck.
Yeah, that part mounts inside the door jamb too though, so definitely not as bad as drilling into the outside of the pillar.Ya that’s the part I like only part I dislike is the pillar mount
Very true thouYeah, that part mounts inside the door jamb too though, so definitely not as bad as drilling into the outside of the pillar.

I don't think this is as big an issue as people make it out to be. Mud caked on the alternator is what is causing the alternators to fail, from all the posts I have read. Water isn't the real issue. Mine has been submerged many times and still works.@Mishimoto , now that the snorkel kits are shipping, is anyone there lying awake at night thinking of how to tackle the splash resistant alternator?
Inquiring minds want to know.![]()
mud will be your main issue.. water might cause it to fail earlier but its not going to just lock up when it touches water... my tacoma has been through water over its hood and its on the original alternator without issues so i wouldnt worry about the alternator tbh.@Mishimoto , now that the snorkel kits are shipping, is anyone there lying awake at night thinking of how to tackle the splash resistant alternator?

I have not looked at the alternator design but if I needed to I would take alternator apart and add more insulation/hydrophobic coating to everything.@Mishimoto , now that the snorkel kits are shipping, is anyone there lying awake at night thinking of how to tackle the splash resistant alternator?

It really depends on your area.mud will be your main issue.. water might cause it to fail earlier but its not going to just lock up when it touches water... my tacoma has been through water over its hood and its on the original alternator without issues so i wouldnt worry about the alternator tbh.
Clay would for sure be an issue I’ve dealt with it in the past and it’s not funIt really depends on your area.
In GA, if you exit the asphalt you will encounter mud.
Mud infused with good old GA red clay.
And the forestry service roads will be littered with stagnant mudholes after a rain.
Clear flowing water is not that much of an issue.
Deep mudholes full of red clay are indeed a concern and several of the Rangers in the area have already toasted an alternator.
