Yeah I know but I'm sure they're already 2 steps ahead of us already. They'll just add a main module that controls all your plug ins like the 12v, USB and 110. Want to use them pay up.

As much as I love all the tech stuff in my Lariat I'll go back down to a Base model before giving them any more money to activate stuff that should be free. Then I'll add my own ports and wire them in like we use to have to do.
as much as i do enjoy some of the goodies and gadgets im not paying a cent extra for any of it either. part of what brings customers to a certain product is the features and use. so if we have pay for them up front and then a rental to use what we already paid for - nope. piss on that. my favorite addition to cars and trucks is a/c. if they make a/c a paid feature i will go milton on them.

And, what happens at the end of the automobile warranty period? If you're still paying for the "service", does that mean it's still covered?

That's when they hit you up for the "special" extended warranty. One that only covers all these features.

I'm not gonna read 4 pages on this, just wondering if BMW owners are already hit with a subscription fee for using their turn signals? I mean why the hell else don't they use them???

Ford: We'll pay you to lock and unlock your truck with your phone.....

I don't know about y'all, but I will let Ford pay me so they can collect analytics of me doing stupid stuff in my truck

I purchase my cars, no renting or leasing.

I don't want anything that I own "calling home to momma" to snitch on me. I refuse to purchase those devices, and remove/disable the feature if I find them. I have already disconnected the modem in my CPAP which I privately purchased as insurance required that they spy on me (I suffer from sleep APNEA). Same with autos, TVs, computers and cell phones.

My computers are all open source firmware and hardware, and run on FOSS OSes and applications. I have finally purchased a smartphone, but only because it met the above criteria. It actually has HW switches that disconnect power to the modem, camera, microphone, and bluetooth / WiFi. When I turn it off, it is actually powered down and is off. It runs on Linux just like all my computers. BTW, all of the software and OSes are abolutely free and in many ways superior to Windoz and IOS/Apple.

I still do not have a smart meter on my home. Called the Sheriff to bring charges against the local power company for illegally installing a surveillance device on my home when they attempted to replace my old meter. They backed the truck up quickly and left.

I have finally located the cell phone module in the Ranger and will be neutering it soon enough.

I know that I am swimming against the flow, but the smaller the foot print the better. Oh, and I still use cash.

If you give governments and corporates an inch, they will take much more than a mile!

Putin would have about 12 more generals than he has now, had they followed your advice... :)

Yep, the US tracked them, and gave coordinates to the Ukrainians. Same with the Black Sea Russian fleet. The US tracks and reports the data (including targeting solutions) to Ukraine.

The US is treading a very fine line. We should be very careful here as the Russians have several powerful asymmetric weapon systems that the USA has absolutely no defense against. The last thing the USA should want is a war against the Russians and China. From the war gaming scenarios that I have read up on, the US lost all of them.

I suspect we would have a few surprises for either or both.

you sound like an interesting neighbor

interestingly enough though....I'm not paranoid about people spying on me.
I like to keep them guessing though while simultaneously surfing weird porn, easy to bake dinner ideas, weather forecasts, Discovery channel documentaries and super hero costumes all at the same time.
might as well give those spies a laugh or two.
I come from a military intelligence and I/T Security background. I also have an EE background and built HW and SW AI engines for IBM for years. I was Mgr, I/T Western Hemisphere For Lenovo Corp. (Yes I worked for the Communist Chinese Government. Lenovo was funded by the Chinese Academy of Science and funded by several PLA Generals.

But so was Google, Facebook, and many other Large I/T Corporations (funded by the US Government - CIA).

I have seen behind the curtain years ago and decided not to play.

No tinfoil.

Simply reality.

You don't even know when you are being manipulated (this is a generic statement, not aimed at you personally). The tools used today are that good.

Now I am returning you to your "Regularly Scheduled Programming"

One last thought, read up on Surveillance Capitalism

Yes I suspect that you are correct. It is a no win situation that only a fool would entertain. Unfortunately, capitals around the world are full of just such people.

Find the supply wires and put them on a switch on the dash. Problem solved.
You mean cough, cough, hotwire them. Sorry for that.
