I apologize

Forgive me for not catching that:please:

So, is this an actual (Heater Grid) in the windshield or is it just the name the (ROW) Rangers use for Defrost?
There is a conductive layer in the glass, it works. I've used it on a Focus I rented in Norway. But has never been available in the US. I'm not sure if it prevents the glass from meeting US safety glass requirements or something.

yeah, i really enjoy the cold winter package on my 2017 Subie Outback. it has heated side mirrors, heated front seats, and a small area in the front windshield where the wipers rest. So they get defrosted along with the rear glass. Godsend during the freezing months with ice in the morning.

Cracked windshield from bottom left to center of driver viewing area, probably 18-20 inches.
I feel you pain. My windshield got a stone chip the first week I had the truck.

On the other hand, it could be worse…

Yours Is definitely worse!11
This is no big deal for me, it'll be replaced for free without even a deductible. Just a little time. Lesson is that the smallest chip in that black zone can result in this.

Guess I won't use max defrost anymore. I had a chip that I repaired myself in the upper left and would hate to see that go.

I have used isopropyl alcohol on the windshield with good success. I first used that way-overpriced, but convenient, spray one. But have since used a small pump-up prayer, and now just screw a Lowe's spray bottle sprayer right into the alcohol bottle.

But it works best when it's a thin ice layer. If snow has melted into the ice and refrozen making a thicker layer, it helps but isn't instant.

Or maybe add piezo ignitors and change your windshield wiper fluid!

Get your hot Soupie here! =D

Hmm, cheap $9.99 mod! And that's one for each side!

Not sure why anyone thinks Max defrost could cause a window to crack. The only thing Max defrost does is turn the air blend to defrost, turn the fan on high and turn on the mirror/rear defrost. The fan is still going to be blowing cold ambient air until the engine warms up. This is no different than regular defrost.

Ford USA use to offer that years ago... had a 1993 Taurus that I added that option to. Worked great... don't know why they stopped.
The other reason someone mentioned in the RS group was that the metal in the glass interferes with cell phone signal in the car. Perhaps in the US polled buyers made it sound like cell phone signal was more important than clearview.

Had it on a Forester and don't think I ever used it.
Well, the topic is of the Ranger, and I added my RS which is another Ford product. And in both of those, it's not offered in the US. I could care less about Subaru features, regardless of how much my son-in-law want to talk about them.

I put that Ford deflector on my hood and so far it seems to kick road debris over the roof. Without it everything hit the windshield. Don't know if I'm lucky or it makes a difference. I use max defrost when we are out with it.
I've got a Ford deflector on my Ranger, and it is definitely worth it. Keeps the road debris off the windshield, so I'm in the "makes a difference" camp.
