Again, it's a love/hate thing for me. I just don't like Caps but do need one when pulling my Airstream. Fiberglass, even Aluminum is just too cumbersom to take on and off without help unless you've a tall space and block and tackle.
The other thing about towing thats often overlooked is payload...
I've had one for a year now, a little love/hate going on. I'm 73 so putting a hard top on and off is not reasonable. This goes on easily. I put it on for our winter trips towing our little trailer. Keeps things dry and out of site. My bike is upright below which is a real plus. It's not the best...
Sorry, not a picture taker. Photo with truck and trailer is a bit old. Truck in driveway is today. About to take the cap off and put tonneau back on. One of those inflatable caps I only use for travels. I almost like it, weighs 35 lbs and I can take it on and off easily, fits in a large bag when...
Wife and I just got back from a 2 month, 4K mile trip. Towed our 19' Airstream the whole way, probably 4,500lbs or so actual travel weight, never did the scale thing. I did purchase a hitch weight scale and it reads 600 lbs as average. A bit higher than I expected but well within the 750 lbs...
Been pretty cold up here, about 15 degrees now which is a warmup.
Had some chores and drove 30 miles north to a real town, was in a Walmart type of shopping center. Came back and needed to top off washer fluid. Was only home for 10 minutes, opened the hood and a grey cat was staring at me...
It was well below zero here for a bit, roads were nice with just a bit of snow covering, truck looked good.
Today it warmed up to 15 degrees and the salt they put down a few days back started to work. Roads are wet and slushy. Truck is a mess. I hate salt on roads. It's mainly state roads that...
Defenders.
Researched this forum quite a bit and took the advice. Was concerned with towing, do 5-7 k per yr. Supposedly, these have stiffer sidewalls which help with load. Add in better road ride . We'll see but @ $275/ tire, I'm hoping its true. I've always gotten good advice here so i'm...
Finally free, 2.5 hrs. I'll focus on the good. What a difference. Weird that truck seems to be riding higher. Country roads up here, somewhat snow covered as they've cut back on salt. Ride to dealer with old tires I had it in 4 wdh , ride home with new tires in 2wd and felt more positive. Can't...
Today I'm getting new Michelins on my 21 fx4 Lariat. Originals still had life @40k miles but about to leave in our travel trailer for a few months, so want to be safe.
Getting this done at the dealer, painfully slow been here 2 hrs so far. Got first appt of the day as I knew how slow they were...
Sorry for confusion, my wdh has a 2 5/16 ball. Would rather not use it.
Sounds as though I'm good to go. Real worry is this involves towing around NYC, just have to time it right, thinking early on a Sunday.
Thanks to all.
I've gotten a lot of good advice here and regularly tow a 19' travel trailer. As recommended by some I added Bilsteins and blue sumo's to my 2021 XLT Lariat. Also use a wdh while towing my trailer, a real solid setup and everything feels as one.
Considering buying a sailboat about 300 miles...
Forward looking. Even on my original Ranger mirrors I felt a bit blinded looking down and to the left, have to pay attention to lines and lanes when turning left. Maybe it's just how I sit but don't remember that on my F150. New clearview make it a little worse as its a bigger mirror. Like most...
Just joined the club, put some next Gen Clearviews on this afternoon. I don't typically like doing this kind of thing but it really was easy. An hour plus but I'm too slow and too careful. Hardest part was paying for them, needed the most expensive pair for Lariat.
They'll take some getting...
Also have 12 volt fridge. I bought two,100 amp hour lithiums and installed a dc to dc charger.
Be aware that lithiums don't accept a charge below 32 degrees. They will discharge down to almost zero, so 200 ah are still available. If that's an issue, you could find a way to move them inside the...
I left the northeast between storms last Friday towing a 19' Airstream, gross weight 5k. We'll be gone for 2-3 months. My first extended towing trip, just short local stuff before.
Wishing I'd purchased towing mirrors. My clamp ons are ok but the glass quality is poor and they are dirtier more...
Yours Is definitely worse!11
This is no big deal for me, it'll be replaced for free without even a deductible. Just a little time. Lesson is that the smallest chip in that black zone can result in this.
