Will better rear shocks improve ride over bad roads? Hitting a pothole or bump on only one wheel jerks the whole truck back and forth. Thanks

YES - if still on stock shocks you will find a notable difference just by replacing the rears, I did my rears first then the fronts (4600's)
The rears cured the bounce and sway issue I had; the fronts were replaced due to RF shock leaking fluid
Rears Replaced @ 6,000 Miles - Replaced to Upgrade from stock (Bounce & Sway issue)
Fronts Replaced @ 20,000 Miles - RF Leaking Fluid
Fronts improved the ride even better over only replacing the rears
Could have had replaced under warranty but they would have replaced with stock, so I went with aftermarket option of (Bilstein 4600's)

100% they'll help especially if you have the Fx4 package. I put Eibach on my '19 Ranger and it was a night and day difference. It'll be way more stable and take away the rear end "wallowing" you get from hitting pot holes or going over washboards off roading. It's probably the best money you'll spend upgrading your Ranger.

Top name aftermarket shocks like Eibach, Bilstein, or Fox will greatly improve your ride. Folks like to do all four corners but fronts are more complicated to swap out and it costs a lot to do so. If that’s not in your budget, even upgrading the rear shocks (as you suggest) will make a big difference. It’s also easy enough to diy. Do it, you won’t be sorry.

I had a vibration I couldn't track down, wheels balanced multiple times, then I noticed it was worse on some roads than others. Starting with the cheapest fix first, I got a pair of plain ol' Monroe Gas shocks for the rear, Rock Auto $40 each, which fixed the problem. At 50,000 miles the OE rear shocks were blown and it's not like I tow or haul anything heavy. Poverty-spec STX with the standard suspension.

It looks to me like the Eibach and Fox also lift the truck, something I’m definitely not interested in.

Better shocks definitely reduces the side to side bounciness, but don’t expect a Lexus-like ride on rough roads. It will still ride like a truck due to the stiff frame and leaf springs.

Check out Bilstein 4600 or 5100, if you don’t want a lift

The Eibach are adjustable so you can leave them level at the factory settings

CAN lift the truck. 4 positions for the snap ring, one being stock height. I went up 3/4" just to make it sit more level.

Paul, certain models of fronts are adjustable as the two posts above point out. The rears are fixed height and do not lift the truck.
