Does your truck take the H7 size? Some use the H6 size that is somewhat smaller in size. Your battery cover may not fit if yours uses the H6 size and you put a H7 size in. Other than that, you can use the H7.
Oh!
OK, I need to check that as well.

You can always Upgrade to the H-7 (Lariat) Battery, the only issue is the cover that wraps around the battery (H-6) will not fit over the H-7 properly.
Easy Solution, cut and tape the old if it will not stretch far enough or replace it with the H-7 cover.

H-7 (Battery Cover / Blanket: P/N: KB3Z-10A687-A - They run around $30.00

Heading into winter I'm wondering if it needs a new battery.

Thoughts?

Thanks

I suppose that would depend on if you're seeing any of the warning signs like weird changes in your normal warning sounds or notices that your truck has shut some features down to save your battery.

You are in a similar spot to where I was. I ended up buying a battery checker and it showed the battery health at 40% and it said "REPLACE". I figured 5+ years was good enough for me and I replaced the battery.

I read something the other day that stuck with me - If you average out how much a battery costs per year and you stretch it too far and you get stuck - think of the little $$$ you saved. Its why I replaced mine - With all the electronics and load on today's batteries I felt good getting over 5 years on mine.

I've got a battery checker and the readings change and connections seem good. How accurate our those?I have a TOPDON BT100.

Once the battery is replaced, how can we tell if the BMS has actually been reset?

The true way to do it - disconnect battery and test
Due to (the tester is resistance) based
It is difficult to get an accurate reading due to not being able to get directly on the (pos) battery post.
So if not disconnecting, pick a hook up spot (I use the stud) right beside the post and then the (Neg) directly to the Post

You should see results close to this with the TopDon using these connections

This is why (?) I would use Forscan or Scanner to do the Reset - You will have a Confirmation Pop-Up of Successful
In addition, you can view the Data PID for - Time Since Installed and if successful it will read (0) days - Thus another confirmation of Reset

The Brake/Brake Etc - Method relies on a light - Did it work?????

I was so surprised by the need to be on the post with this tester.

Thanks to all of you, I removed the clamp from the positive post and was able to see that the battery was in great shape as compared to my first reading taken near the post.

This is a prime example of the useful knowledge this forum provides (as compared to semi-useful, but just as important info on Toyota bump stops, Graphene, and dampers!). =D

Ummmm....
I hang my head in shame.
I don't have a tester OR a scanner. ?

Hopefully not a damper as well......you know what they say about being a real man. IMO you can buy a cheap battery tester and get a pretty good feel regards the health of your battery, testing it after fully charging it, then a few subsequent tests the following days (without driving it) and watching for 10 mins or so during those tests and you can see how much the voltage readings rise , giving a feel for the level of internal resistance which usually rises as the battery ages. If the you see the battery consistently losing say .5 volts after the tester is hookup for 10 mins or so then pretty good measure about the health of your battery. The only caveat is the need to limit or eliminate parasitic draw for the days you are conducting your test

I just don't drive enough and really don't have a good way to put it on a tender right now but I am working on that. My second battery is starting to go after 2 years and I put in a H7 in my XLT hoping it would last a bit longer. I really hate the idea of you have to drive more, I just don't want to go drive for nothing but the battery charging. A little FYI - the H7 Does fit in the tray of a XLT but the battery blanket does not. I didn't put one on when I switched over to the H7 but will do so if I replace again. Going to try to use my battery tender on it once I get the logistics of getting the charger hooked up.

At least you have a damper, right?!?

Or maybe you don't worry about it and your Ranger starts when you turn the key. =)

A lot of us fret about things that tend to work, regardless of our running around in circles. =D

Like I'm trying to figure out if Toyota bump stops will fix my poorly engineered bed rake (the only rake I should be concerned with is my leaf rake - it's fall in New England!).
