3 years/80,500 miles, day before a hurricane... It died. Lol.

Went to remote start it this morning and nothing happened. I knew what I was in for at that moment. Jumped it and drove it to my Dr appointment and in the office I sent a chat message to AAA. They came to me and replaced the battery, in the rain, for $266 plus 3% for using my card. So $270 otd. Beats going to the parts store and paying $280.
Not a bad price for them coming to you and installing it. I am 3 yrs and a few months. AS/S is still functioning fine. Last health check was good (I need to check it again). I have the onboard desulfator on it. I also have a jump pack under the rear seat.
Last time a battery died on me it was at the gas pump at Sam's Club. It was early in the morning so no one was behind me. A girl wheeled out a cart with a jump pack, then I drove over to the tire and wheel department for a new battery. That was about 7 yrs on original battery on my '12 Focus.

In the rain at that..

My ranger is tuned so I don't have stop/start.. My app didn't even send a notification.

I am tuned too, but opted to retain the AS/S. I turn it off often, but wanted the choice.

The app never sent me a notification that my battery was bad/low and the battery light on the dash never came on. It never came on after the battery swap. So I'm assuming I don't have to reset the bms.

Overall I'm happy with how long it lasted. With my work I'm turning it on and off multiple times a day. Mix of short and long trips. I am tuned so the stop/start is not active.
Replaced the stock battery on my '20 XLT Fx4 with an H7 from Costco in March 2023 after the truck gave me battery warnings in the app then later would not start / hold charge. Had to jerry rig the felt cover by chopping up the old one and a new one as stock size did not fit, gorilla taping the pieces together, could not find the H7 size felt cover anywhere. Happy with new battery.

Bought my XLT end of April 2021. A week ago I started getting the Remote Features Disabled message on my Fordpass app. Should I think I'm on borrowed time with this OEM battery? I will probably go to Walmart if I need a new battery. I do keep one of those Halo jump/chargers in the glovebox of each of my vehicles.

Will Walmart tech have to do anything like a software reset?

I'd get a Weiss battery and up scale to Lariat size...

I would put it on a battery charger and see if the message goes away.

Do you mean like a trickle charger?? Only thing I have is the one I put on my riding lawn mower when it's not in use for awhile. I do have a Halo jump starter but haven't had to use it yet on the Ranger.

I usually go to Walmart for the vehicle batteries since it only 4 miles away and they give no grief if one fails under Warranty. In fact, the one in my Mountaineer was about 3 months shy of the expiration date on the battery and hadn't completely died (I forget what it was doing that made me stop in to get it checked) and they put a new one in no questions asked.

A battery maintainer/charger - 5 or 10 amps. The Ranger doesn't fully charge the battery by design, and if you don't drive it much, the battery will become discharged. A charger used on it from time to time will help in this situation. Some on here have used the Forscan program to change the Ranger charging point from the default 70% to 90% or more. This also helps the situation.

Hmmmm I drive it every day to and from work, but it's only about a 15 minute trip each way.

That is not enough driving to keep the battery charged, and could be the issue.
I never had this problem before with my typical driving just to and from work. Is it because the battery is getting older that it doesn't hold the charge? The battery will be 3-1/2 years old in October 2024.

It is likely that the 3 1/2 year old battery doesn't have the capacity that it did when new. If you get a battery charger that can desulfate the battery, it will probably help. I have a Noco Genius 5 (5 amp) charger/maintainer that has the desulfating feature. It is up to you, but you can likely get more use out of your present battery.

You could have the battery tested or purchase a Topdon BT100 battery tester. I have one and use it to determine CCA or CA of the battery. If you get one, make sure that you have a very good connection on the tester's two clamps. The positive terminal of the battery is hard to get a good connection to using the tester's clamp.
